Was coming here to post this https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/41530918/hall-famer-dikembe-mutombo-dies-brain-cancer-age-58
RIP Dikembe... brain cancer happened to the father of one of my daughter's school friends, he'd just turned 50. Shocking how quickly he went downhill, and was gone in less than 2 years. Horrible disease.
And now Pete Rose. I wished him poorly in this life, here's to a better afterlife. RIP https://wapo.st/3TPK858
We have no way of knowing that there IS an afterlife. always best to withhold those wishes for actual bad people- I don't know what he's done that comes close to the Patriots and Brady's shenanigans in the NFL. Do we have evidence that he didn't vote for Hillary in 2016? That would suffice! Anyway, they deliberately let him die without a Hall induction, so they don't need to put his family thru that sometime down the road adding insult to injury.
Ya gotta take the HOF you're offered. He never left Las Vegas Besides his records and gambling, what Mets fans remember him for:
Rick Reilly genuinely likes Rose. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/10/01/pete-rose-baseball-great-dead/ Pete lived his entire 83 years, not just his spectacular baseball career, like he was double-parked. He’d sprint to first base the instant the ump called ball four. Vin Scully once told his listeners, “Pete Rose just beat out a walk.” I once saw him sprint off after striking out.
John Amos, the actor known for his role as the family patriarch on the hit sitcom “Good Times” and the adult Kunta Kinte in the famed miniseries “Roots,” has died, according to a statement from his son shared with The Hollywood Reporter. https://t.co/RZlxQLj7sp— WSVN 7 News (@wsvn) October 1, 2024
And he was John Amos in the Adam Sandler vehicle, Uncut Gems. Also one of the few actors I can think of whose character was killed off in two different series, one of which he had a lead role, the other a major supporting role.
They have his death date as August 21. Strange. RIP. I'll never forget him and Esther Rolle pointing out JJ's increasing idiocy. Thanks for that specifically. Countdown to a centrist reminding us that Good Times was a sitcom and that JJ's idiocy was welcomed by a certain demo of the US population.
With John Amos now gone, Georgia Engel is the lone remaining cast member from The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
