I was in a play in college with a guy who went on to a pretty decent career, Michael Boatman. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0090225/ I used to have a good time playing Six Degrees of Separation, the Dr. Wankler edition. I have connections to some damn fine TV: Battlestar Galactica, pretty much all the Star Treks. I can get back pretty far, too. I think the earliest show I was six degrees from was Naked City, from the late 50s.
Lt William Calley at age 80. https://wapo.st/3YpZ790 He passed away back in April, apparently successful in his wish to "sink into obscurity." As a teen, I saw him as everything that was wrong with war. As a college student, Calley was everything that was wrong about war. I entered ROTC determined that I would be the anti-Calley, though obviously I never faced the same challenges and threats as did young William. RIP sir, RIP.
I don't know who said it, but there is a quote that I always remember... "between war and hell, war is worse, there are no innocents in hell"
Bela Lugosi was (briefly, before he died) in Ed Wood’s “Plan Nine From Outer Space”.. Johnny Depp played Wood in the movie “Ed Wood”. Depp and Matt Damon were together in the movie “Wonder Boys”. Edit: oh never mind. I guess “Wonder Boys” was the name of a book that featured both Depp and Damon.
Re above Matt Damon starred in Rounders with Martin Landau. Martin Landau played Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood. Ed Wood wrote Plan 9 From Outer Space one of the worst films I've ever seen. Matt Damon co-wrote Good Will Hunting, the absolute worst film I've ever seen.
My daughters are pretty sure Plan 9 is the greatest film ever made. They must have seen it a hundred times.
Depp was in "Gilbert Grape" with Leo DeCaprio, and DiCaprio was in "The Departed" with Damon. Two steps between Lugosi and Damon...
Billy Bean aged 60. The former baseball player and LGBTQ advocate, not the Barnsley FC minority owner.
Susan Wojcicki - 56 She was the 16th employee at Google and the CEO who oversaw the rise of YouTube into the number one streaming video service.
Smoking doesn't seem to have affected his life expectancy. Or maybe it did. He had a stroke in 2019 and developed lymphoma and told a magazine that he was in favor of euthanasia.
Greg Kihn - musician, biggest hit was "Jeopardy" in 1983. Those of us in the Bay Area may remember him as a DJ on the San Jose classic rock station (KUFX, called "K-FOX" on air) in the 00's. https://variety.com/2024/music/obit...dead-jeopardy-breakup-song-singer-1236107843/
Greg Kihn was huge in the Bay Area when I first moved here. His songs were always a staple at parties. Yeah, The Breakup Song! They don't write 'em like that anymore. RIP
