I had some MAGA dude I met at a bar in Belize say that to me derisively as if it was some kind of dig.

My response was: Huh! I wish!

I think it surprised him as he looked puzzled.

Yup. No "great man" or "great statesman" or "wise person," but had platitudes. And in political speak, reading between the lines, said much of what we have said over the past page or two.

What Biden says is true, I don't doubt Kissinger's "fierce intellect and profound strategic focus". But it does clearly evade who Kissinger really was.

It's like if somebody asks me what I think as a South American about Kissinger, and I respond by pointing out that when he visited Argentina in 1978 he was very insightful about South American soccer. Yes, he was, I read some of his soccer comments and he obviously understood the South American game, and in particularly the differences between the Argentine and Brazilian styles. But pointing that out would absolutely miss the point about who Kissinger was and how he's remembered in South America.

I understand, the US president has to be diplomatic. But it still doesn't feel right.

Of course, Xi Jinping and his cronies, who never have anything good to say about the US, are suddenly very generous in eulogizing Henry Kissinger.

    https://www.reuters.com/world/chinas-xi-sends-condolences-biden-over-kissingers-death-2023-11-30/

There is a brotherhood of evil men, I suppose. I'm sure based on his patented modus operandi that if Kissinger was still in charge of US foreign policy he'd tacitly approve of the Uyghur genocide, give carte blanch to Xi on Taiwan, and we'd have a new historical beautiful and beneficial friendship with China that would prove yet again what a genius the man was.

The man was pure evil, I tell you.

The man was indeed a dandy, partying with actresses and models while people died cruelly due to his policies.

The irony is that Nixon actually was upset at Kissinger over his decadent lifestyle, while he of course approved and worked with him on all the evil stuff that they did together all over the world.

I would have repped this post if you'd said "escalate" rather than "start."

Nixon was probably jealous of his decadent lifestyle as he was so hooked on prescription drugs that one drink would have him slurring and staggering around the White House.

He has to be diplomatic indeed. I do not think you can expect POTUS to blast a deceased SOS, that will have been highly inappropriate. What Biden said (and didnt say) speaks for itself. Anyone will realize there was no friendship between those two and that Biden totally disagrees with Kissinger. That speaks volume too.

Of course he was. Nixon was probably one of those men who hated those who had sex because growing up they couldn't get any.

There is a story that I heard, and I don't know if it's true, but from what I know of Nixon it does ring true. Apparently when Richard Nixon was young he was so infatuated with a woman that in order to spend time with her he would drive her to her dates with other guys. This went on for years. The poor guy tried so hard, and eventually she gave in to him and married him, and later became the First Lady of the United States, Pat Nixon.
