How many of the mainstream media will be abusing NFL fans in general and Redskin fans in particular for last night's incident?? When was the last time the crowd needed to be hit with pepper spray at an MLS game?? Please email Rome, ESPN, ... and make sure they call out these lunatics. Their actions must be stopped. If this happened at a soccer game it would be front page bashing news but with the NFL, they will ignore it.
here's the story. http://espn.go.com/nfl/news/2002/0916/1432726.html so far, I don't see any references to 'hooliganism' or any calls for American football stadiums to be banned.
The coverage I've seen blames it on only one fan (who was strangely not arrested) and seem to focus more upon blaming the Prince George's police for screwing up and spraying pepper spray on the visiting team. Spin.
I'll be curious to see more in-depth reporting. However, I would have to say that spraying the visiting team, accidentally or not, does constitute a screw up on the part of police, especially if it was to control one fan (though I think that's the part we're all having trouble buying right now).
Send the email early. Jim, Hope you liked the riot I started at Redskins Stadium last night. Signed, US Soccer Fan
I have season tickets to, both, the Redskins and DC United. Last night's game didn't seem any different than any DC United game I've been too. It doesn't seem the media has said much about fighting at DC United game.
Unfortunately. That is probably the problem. MLS should think twice about a Philly franchise. Sometimes a few can make a reputation that punishes the many unfairly.
There haven't been any riots at the Charge/Freedom games, but then it does look like things might be headed that way...
im measnt to be watching that game tonight. i bet CH5 will cut out the riot. shame, i could have given out marks for how decent a riot it was i have seen enough of them in my time (ok ive done one pitch invasion at a reserves match but thats all)
The networks here have a policy not to show fights in the stands or when some drunk idiot runs onto the field. They stop doing this so not to encourage it.
