VAR seems to only work for us.

Always seems to be issues with SLB.What a coincidence.

Bas Dost scores off Battaglia’s cross. Makes it 1-0 with the header off the right post

Man of the match has to be Rui. They better not give it to Dost even though he scored

Crazy game. Team played terrible. Injuries galore but one of the hardest fixtures to win.

Dost looked offside on his goal, but the point-blank save by Rui the play before, Guedes was offside as well.

Jorge Sousa needs to be fired and hung in the town square. Trash reffing.

    Yeah Jorge sousa sucks.

Let's hope Mathieu and piccini aren't out too long. Can be a good chance for Ristovski

Looking forward to Ristovski. Pinto, not so much considering Mathieu has been one of our best players.

Piccini has been solid too, and Ristovski is still a bit of a mystery. Mathieu seemed to walk off on his own accord fine.

Shitty thing is we play Juve on Tuesday and then Braga on Sunday. Not the time you want to see 2 of your back 4 go down with muscular injuries.

    Player ratings:

Patricio - Man of the match! Single-handedly kept us in the game. Amazing saves and great leadership. Please stay with us for the rest of your career. 10/10

Piccini - Defensively solid, offensively non-existent. Got injured and clearly couldn't keep playing but made the effort when we didn't have any subs left and stayed in for the last few minutes after the goal. I think he will be out for a few weeks so a chance now to see Ristovski - I'd like to see if offensively we'll be more dangerous with Ristovski. 7/10

Coates - Thought he was good, don't think our defensive line was the problem today for most of the game. Needs to be careful when he tries to take the ball forward himself as he lost the ball a few times. 7/10

Mathieu - Hard to give him a rating as he went off injured in the 1st half. Hope he has a speedy recovery and pray that Andre Pinto can step up (otherwise we could play William at CB)

Coentrao - Similar to Piccini, the fact is playing badly or not, it's another clean sheet when Coentrao plays the whole game (is this the first game he played 90 minutes?). 7/10

William - Struggled in the 1st half where our midfield was completely overrun. Much better in the 2nd half with the introduction of Battaglia at halftime where he showed his class. 7.5/10

Bruno Fernandes - Totally non-existent in the 1st half, where he was completely engulfed by Rio Ave's midfield. Better in the 2nd half when Battaglia came in and he moved higher up the pitch, had a goal called offside but not his best game. Seems to me he needs to play in one position - Attacking Midfield. 6/10

Gelson - Not good again. Still hoping he can recover his form, I'm not sure if his extra defensive duties are helping his game. Opposition defenses seem to have figured him out. Still making poor decisions. 6/10

Acuna - Consistent. Puts in the hustle as always. Can't fault him for that. 7/10

Podence - had a interesting touches at the start but slowly faded. Someone had to be subbed because in this game we needed Battaglia and Podence is the easiest option. Although I think he was having a better game then Gelson... 6.5/10

Dost - Scored the crucial goal for us when needed to seal the win! 8/10

    Subs:

Andre Pinto - looks like Andre Pinto's gonna have a chance to show us what he's worth. Mathieu has spoiled us so he'll need to make an impact. At least in this game he didn't have a howler like in the cup game. 6.5/10

Battaglia - He should have started this game. This was going to be a tough game and for these games Battaglia has to start. Actually wasn't playing too well but his presence alone in midfield helped a lot. Contributed to the goal. 7.5/10

Doumbia - squandered a good chance. Dude needs more minutes though. Play him on Tuesday vs. Juventus
