After yesterday's loss to the Breakers Hege Riise spoke on the phone to a reporter in Norway and told him that she fears that she might have an ACL injury. Here's the link to the complete article for anyone who wants to attempt to read Norwegian: Riise frykter korsbåndskade When I get some help translating the article or find out more information about Hege's condition I will post it here. In the meantime, my thoughts are with Hege during this difficult time and I sincerely hope that her knee injury isn't a serious one and that she will have a speedy recovery.
Courage loses game, player According to the News Observer Hege is going to be evaluated tomorrow: Courage loses game, player
still no word on the knee, but here is an article as of Sunday: http://carolinacourage.com/355059.html
I don't know that most Courage fans really care. I would just care that A) she returns to health as soon as possible, even if she never plays for us again, and B) the Courage find a replacement for Hege Riise.
ACL is the first thing I thought when I saw the injury on tv. The way her foot was planted and her body turning...I hope I'm wrong. I wish her the best.
Hege's Knee Injury The Norwegian website "toppserien.com" is reporting today that Hege has probably suffered an ACL injury. Apparently the doctors who examined Hege yesterday are not 100% sure, but right now it unfortunately does not look very good for Riise. What wasn't clear to me in my attempt to understand the main points of the Norwegian article "Dårlig nytt for Riise" (Bad News for Riise) was the degree of her injury and whether or not it could be a partial or complete ACL tear. Hopefully in the worst case it is only a partial tear and that there is still the chance that Hege will be able to play again this season.
This is awful. I hope Courage fans realize how much respect and fondness is out there for Riise. She is, hands down, one of my favorite players to watch. From everything I've heard she is also a wonderful person with an exemplary attitude. Please do keep us posted about her status.
I hope Hege recovers in time to help Norway in the WWC. Since this was her last season in WUSA, I doubt we'll see her in Courage blue again. I just hope we can make the playoffs at this point.
Four to seven months is not good. At her best she was the best playmaker in the league. This is not good for the WUSA, NWNT, Carolina Courage and women's soccer.
This is sad news. Hege is one of the class acts on the Courage. She comes out and signs autographs after every match and loves spending time with the younger fans. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.
I am terribly sorry to hear this news. This is a huge loss to the Courage, the league, and potentially team norge. I wish her a speedy recovery.
One good bit of news from today's press conference is that Hege is open (but undecided) about playing for the Courage next season. (insert all the standard disclaimers about the probability of the Courage and WUSA existing next year) Her primary target is the World Cup. A possible postponement due to SARS can only help her cause. She will be staying in the Triangle through her rehab, so she should be a fixture at games.
