In the last few months I've started following a few political blogs, and one of the fascinating things I've learned from the blogs is how the Will to Power movement conservatives get their spin points into the mainstream. This thread is dedicated to alerting us political geeks on the upcoming memes.

For example, we're going to be seeing alot in the next few days or weeks connecting Howard Dean and pessimism. This one just hit Dec. 19, and has already gotten picked up a bit. Watch how Reep attacks on Dean will focus on that one attribute until it's played out. And it may never get played out; people still repeat the lies about Gore and the internet.

    Redundant thread.

The guy himself has positioned his run as a true opposition to Bush, from the War to anything that he sees a wrong with America, due to Bush.

I mean, this is not Bush's problem, but Dean's. Just as Dean has positioned himself as the anti-Bush and used war-fatigue as his number one issue, his message has reached campaign-fatigue.

In the very least, we both, as many mainstream media outlests have noticed the same. Dean is hitting a wall, be it artificial or real, his message is getting old, fast.

You can be elected the world over on one issue, even an anti-issue. For all the flack we American get for being stupid, we consider more than one issue when electing (selecting) a leader. Yea, Gore kissed his wife, but Bush has been *#*#*#*#ing his for years.

Your thread reminds me of that thing we used to say as kids...Do over...Do over!

This is a great idea, superdave. Especially since folks like Garcia apparently swallow everything the pundits feed them.

But can you tell me where the word "meme" comes from? Thanks.

Interesting how it only works 1 way in SD's world. How about this gem that's been dusted off by Dems each & every 4 years:

"Senior citizens of _______(fill in town or state), the Republicans want to take away Medicare and increase the cost of prescription drugs. They'd have you living on the street if they could. Vote Democratic - we scare the votes right out of you fearful seniors!"

Does anyone else vaguely remember someone mentioning that conservatives and independants are having to resort to "putting conjectural words in the other party's mouth"?

An extraordinarily brilliant poster made just that point a day or two ago.

Howard Dean and pessimism? That must be a throwaway to pass the time until the real action begins.

I can see the future, too. I predict the Democrats will try all of the following:
    1) Bush is dumb - doesn't work but they like the cheap laughs
    2) Bush hates clean air and water - just like Houston has worse air than L.A.
    3) Rising tide of hunger and homelessness
    4) Worst economy in 25, 50 , 100 years
    5) Bush hates blacks
    6) Bush hates seniors
    7) Bush stole the 2000 election - again, it doesn't work but it gets demos blood flowing

And I predict that none of it will work

James Carville was on with Russert on MSNBC the other day talking about his new book. He covered most of these "issues" and other than the large budget deficit, the others are solely Dem. boilerplate. He kind of handled Dean gently but you can tell that he's waiting for one of the Clintons to pull off the leash and let the Ragin' Cajun do his thing on Dr. Dean.

The problem is that Dean is mopping up the floor with the rest of them. Do they upset the apple cart and put in a loser who couldn't beat Dean?

If a guy can't even energize his base, he's doomed. Dean at least gives them a chance to go down fighting. And he's got a little 'slick willy' in him, just look at all of those medical emergencies his campaign stops have seen.

You can the Dean rise and the anti-war debate anyway you want, but you cannot deny the simple fact that this is what put him on the national map. I like to read and hear various opinions, but swallow?

This has come up again due to the fact that Dean said the day (or day after) Saddam was caught, 'This will not make America safer.' Well, thanks Dr. Killjoy. He positioned himself and re-positioned himself on the issue. In the dabtes he has claimed to have been the only one, from the 1st day of his run as against the war. Iowa recieved this guy well from that stand, and the rest is where we are today.

The first time I ever heard of him, as a growing candidate, was from NPR in a report on Iowa's warm reception to a real anti-war candidate.

Now, since then we have seen him make a few goofs and a few more solid connections. He has various diverse issues that appeal to more than the anti-war crowd. But, Dean himself is pulling the Reagan playbook without asking the question of being better off today, but telling everyone, you are worse off and it will only get worse if he is not elected.

I call this a redundant thread because we have already seen a few questioning Dean and his positions. This one is just one from another angle. It must be the media's fault Dean is seen as negative. I mean, the only time he looks to do something that looks positive it seems like political pandering, from looking for black votes in Harlem with Gore to being the candidate for 'guys with the Confederate flags in their pickup trucks.' The party uniter is using division to get elected.

The real issue, as the Dean threads have addressed, is to ask if he could win a national election against Bush. The Democratic party does not seem to think so, that is, if you go by some political pundits. ;) I think he could beat Bush, especially after a couple of debates, one on one.

I stopped reading right here, because a week after Dean said that, we went to orange alert. Don't you think it's a sad day in this country when a presidential candidate is excoriated for telling the truth?

I also stopped reading because you clearly have Dean confused with Kerry and Gephardt to be making the statement you make in your last sentence there.

Thank you for proving my point, though.

    I thought you stopped reading...

Anyway, I am glad I made your point. I do what I can. Imagine that. Two human beings can have the same opinion...me and a pundit. The shock almost floored me.

But hey, I bet superdave agrees with you, too. Should I stop reading your posts because folks like you apparently swallow everything superdave feeds you?

Doesn't sound like you had much of a point to start with when you get down to these little games.

And not too long thereafter, the terror alert was raised, which can only mean that capturing Saddam did not, in fact, make America any safer.

You know, the two things could be unrelated. If Al Qaeda has been planning something for a while, Saddam's capture would be irrelevant. I'm not necessarily saying capturing Saddam will make us safer, but your logic is faulty.

But everyone already knows that Saddam and AQ are not linked! See, this is how the Left keeps America misinformed...by repeating all the Right wing lies!

In the end, they can deny they started the rumor.

Of course they're unrelated. That was kind of my point.

Ok, so the capture of Saddam won't lower the auto accident rates in the USA?

If Dean wants to be safe, he should vote for Nader.

And a whole year of the Bush campaign painting Dean as the angry militant liberal yankee. And it will work because Dean comes across as the most yankee of the yankees. There are five previously Democratic senatorial seats that are now open. Expect Bush to be re-elected and for the reeps to pick up four or five of those Senate seats. All because Democratic primary voters vote to indulge themselves.

The shame in all this is that Bush won't have to run on the issues and will have no direction for a second term.

    Dean's blunt talk about race

    http://www.boston.com/news/globe/ed...004/01/02/deans_blunt_talk_about_race?mode=PF

Yes that's right southerners (or "white folk" as Dean calls them) , Dean is coming to educate you on race. See the problem is, you white folk just don't understand.

Scary thing is,(and I'm a conservative), that what he said about whites not being worse about racism than blacks, but rather having more influence over discrimination because of our majority status is right in line with my own thinking. I have been distressed for years over the handling of the race issue by both parties, and it's one reason I have long considered myself indipendant of either. If this were the only issue to vote upon, Dean would have won me over with that statement right there....... good thing for me I already know what a numnut he is on all of the other issues I feel strongly about.

I just hope and pray that conservatives can wake up and see that you can not treat race as a non issue... oh you can do it and win this election, but that does not mean you will do away with it as a continuing problem. If only the dems are coming up with solutions, and most of them are big government, socialist welfare-state answers, then guess which solutions are going to be put into action?

Not Ours! We haven't come up with any!
