I'm interested in hearing about how the Riders got started, for a couple of reasons. Along with a few others, I'm starting up a supporters group for the Breakers next year, and would love to learn from the Riders' experiences. Also, as a member since 2006, I only know the group as one whose members number in the hundreds and whose bank account numbers in the thousands, and I'd like to know more of our group's history, beyond what is written on the website. I want to better understand the frustrations with the FO and how that relationship has evolved over the years, and I'm curious to hear how the group got off the ground and built its membership. Any info/stories will be appreciated.

Then as a Riders member, you know we have our own message board and that would be a great place to start. I would recommend that you talk to Magpie, Ross, Patfan1, Weber King to start with. I also think that somewhere in the BS threads, someone started with history and if you find a thread where people are fighting, there normally is a bit of history also.

    Good Luck!

That's nice but shouldn't that type of information be hosted on the Riders website, in case people who want to join can know more about the group.

Isn't there an article like that somewhere on the site? I remember reading a history of the Riders.

There is a history page, go to it. The question was wanting stories and dealings with FO, I offered names that might have stories dealing with FO.
You got history dealing with FO, then write to the guy.

    Meinert6,
Again those are just a few names. I'm sure tomorrow you'll see more stories and others that have long associations with the group. Tom Hill is another but I don't remember his name on here.

Feel free to drop me a PM with any questions you might have and I'll be happy to provide you with some information. FWIW, this history section of the Midnight Riders pages is in the process of being updated, and with my wedding now come and gone I hope to pass along a revised, more complete effort to Fran to post on the site.

    Cheers,

    Evan

Let me know if I can help, but Evabs would be the best option.

Thanks guys. Evan and others, I'll be sure to come pick your brains at a tailgate sometime soon, if you don't mind.

Well, I consider the migration to the Metrofan forums to be pretty late in the history of the Riders. If someone has all the old emails from ISFA and whatever it was before that, that would be good.

I'd also ask Fred if he hasn't been mentioned yet.

Fred's website is the first Revs related one that I found on the internet after I saw that MLS was forming in the Wall Street Journal.

wow...re-reading that gets me so nostalgic. I still have some old issues of Chairman Mao at home that I'm glad I never tossed...

Ah, the good old days, among which included:

    • Hillie being arrested at a tailgate
    • Dan Chapman going home for Foxboro with a set of MetroStars cereal bowls
    • The best eBay charity auction ever
    • The supporters summit being mc'd by Seamus Malin
    • Riders MOTY presentations in the North End and at the Fours

Just something to get started with...

    FYP and more...
    • The many different tailgate spots we've had.
    • Riders MOTY presentation at Bukowski's
    • Approximately $20k in charitable donations overall
    • Immense growth in size of the group
    • Some of the many fantastic tailgates we hosted as a group for the US matches
    • Brown paper bags in the Fort
    • Being told the Guatelamalans (I believe it was) could run on the field because "they don't understand English."
    • Tony's car being stolen during a general meeting
    • Kfoury's pimp hat
    • The hundreds of people I'm proud to call my friends, that I would never have met if it wasn't for this group
