http://www.nscaa.com/seniorRegion.php?it=378&dv=1&dt=20070904&gen=Men If you check some things on the link above you'll find a very peculiar ranking. Clemson is ranked behind Furman in the South Region (4 and 5), yet in the National rankings(voted on by the same voters I would assume) Clemson is #19 and furman is not in the top 25. Explain this one...
well when i looked at it the other day south carolina was in the midwest region ranking which was very strange...as they are about as far from the midwest as you could get.
It's because of their conference affilation. You'll find them ranked in both the South and Midwest regions.
Regional rankings are voted on by regional coaches, national rankings by all. Obviously Clemson garnered some votes on the national level that put them ahead of Furman.
Which is explained in one of the previous posts, but you will also notice that Ohio State is ranked nationally at #22 but 6th in the Great Lakes region. Akron is ranked 4th in the region and #18 nationally. Michigan State, ranked 5th in the region, is not ranked nationally (not even receiving votes). As for UIC (7th in the region) and Michigan (9th in the region), they are receiving votes.
And St. Louis is in the Middle Atlantic region, but obviously far from it geographically... Again, it is based on the conference - Atlantic 10
