    0-0 at end of regulation
    0-0 at end of overtime
    10-10 penalty kicks, then

    winner: Richmond Pascales.

  2. It was actually 9-8 penalties.

It was 9-8 in penalties indeed, but the heading gave me a laugh.

Now I have to find a way to get to Milwaukee. What a way to win it for the Kickers, against the defending A-League champions, on their home field in front of 10K, and to have Pascale clinch it with the PK in the 9th round of PKs. Whale of a game. Both teams with chances and Richmond perhaps should have done better being a man up for 80+ minutes (counting overtime), but I'll take this.

    Rochester NY, but or
Your team out played us, you out coached us, you were faster then us.... all leads to you advancing.

Congrats, enjoy it your team deserved it. Your definently the better team hands down.

I only wish I could have seen the game, but I made a tape of the radio broadcast. Appreciate your graciousness in defeat. Maybe the powers that be up there will be smart enough to get a decent place to play for the Rhinos.

It's a great win for the Richmond franchise. Time to take on Milwaukee with their 3-6-1 now. At least I'll get to see this match.

    A pleasant surprise!

I was in the Virgin Islands when both games were played and just didn't think the Kickers had enough "O" to get it done. As it turned out, I was right, but apparently they didn't need it. I can't believe they managed to shut out the Rhinos in Rochester and then hung on through 9 rounds of penalty kicks! That is unreal! Very exciting. Hopefully, the Kickers can bring home the title to Richmond. It's been a long time since the last title. 7 years? Anyone?

    Re: A pleasant surprise!

Only since last year! At least if we think in footie rather than American sports terms. Winning the league is where it's at everywhere except here.

The last cup title was 1995, the US Open Cup, and if I remember right the last year the Kickers played out at UR campus (or was this the first one for UR Stadium)?

Richmond won a double in 1995, the Open Cup and the "Premier League", which was the USL's ametuer league (kind of like the PDL) - most of that team ended up in the MLS the following season.

The last final we were in was 1996 against Cocoa Express in the 'Sizzling Six' but we lost.

dlatane I would love to agree with you about the regular championship, but until everybody plays an even schedule the regular standings are pretty unbalanced.

hehe - I've got another argument against that.

If your reasoning is that the A League should act like the rest of the leagues in the world and award the championship to the regular season champion, then it follows that they should use the standard 3-1-0 points for W-D-L, right?

    2001 Standings:
    Rochester 16-4-6 52 points
    Richmond 16-3-7 51 points
    Hershey 16-3-7 51 points

Yeah, but did you also eliminate any results gained in golden goal? And disqualify all games won on non-Fifa approved baseball diamonds? (!)
