They tend to be starved for US news.

The US section tends to go unupdated for days at a time.

This where I got the 'Eddie Gaven being watched by Man City' news.

Seems so sad a once National team starter is now playing back in the "A" league. I still think he could play in the MLS as a sub somewhere and if somehow not, then he should be an assistant coach for MLS players on some team.

First, Wynalda ended his career in the A league, so let's save the violin music. Former national team player Roy Lassiter was nearly playing alongside Rick Vaughn in the California Penal League, so there you go. Players end their career in the A league because they want to keep playing but are no longer good enough to hold down a spot in MLS, not because of some cosmic injustice where Ronald Reagan puts their name on the communist black list so GMs can align against them. If he was still in top form, he'd be playing. Remember that Williams took a pretty serious pay cut (so the reports went) to stay in MLS with cash-strapped Metro last year, so he could be making more in the A league than he would have in MLS at this point in his career.

Williams could be a coach somewhere, but he needs to earn a license for that first, no? Anyway, I'm sure he has opportunites, but if he wants to spend another year or two playing, cool for him, but it's not up to Metro to single-handedly sustain his career past it's expiration date.

Richie played hard for Metro, and did have an honest desire to perform well for the NY fans. Desire and results are two different things, but much as we bagged on him- and I bagged on him as hard as anyone- he did try. I won't knock him for that.

Hung out with him in a parking lot in DC, he was cool to us, gracious. Wish him well, though, I'm glad we can use the roster spot on a younger player, as we have Clark, Regan and Arena on the D-mid depth chart already.

I don't see anything wrong playing in the A-League, players for years finish there careers by playing in lower divisions.

Some players in the A-League are making more money then playing in the MLS, Williams his not the case, a true New Jerseyean wish him well.

Is it safe to say Ricardo Clark will be taking his spot at defensive-mid?

Richie Williams was not the reason the Metros didn't make the playoffs. There's a top 10 list for that one, and he's not even on it.

Hard to knock Williams for wanting to play in the 'A' League. Heck, Ricky Henderson is a 45 year old future Hall of Famer and played for the Newark Bears last year!

Don't feel bad for Richie. Just ask guys like Dante Washington, who is making more than most of the players in MLS.

    Good luck to him.

    Whats wrong with the A-League?

How different is this from Paul Ince signing on to a team in division 1 in england?

    A-League is our division one.

    Period.
