Richard “Richie” Ledezma at PSV Eindhoven

Discussion in 'Yanks Abroad' started by TheFalseNine, Jul 7, 2018.

  1. It might be wiser just after recovery from that bad injury to keep him close to the club and their medical facilities to build up to full strenght than to loan him out and not knowing what they're doing there with lesser facilities.

They could lend him to an Eerstedivisie or Belgian club and he'd still be close enough to get physical therapy at PSV.

  3. I'm not thinking of therapy, but the combo of having trained at the Herdgang and then for checkup etc. go to the meds for evaluation and immediate report to the staff for training adjustments if necesary. Not gonna happen in your set up.

Ever heard of Jong PSV? They play in Holland's D2, so any benefit that loaning him out could ever give, PSV can give him themselves while keeping him around to, like all real prospects, train with the first team and give him either Eredivisie or lower-division PT on a medical - and training - schedule that they completely control, with immediate and unconditional access to their physical therapy staff.

That's why they shouldn't loan him out. As for why they (probably) couldn't, he's just returned to training after a major injury, the kind that's full of recovery stop-starts and regressions that can leave a player unfit for weeks. No serious club would take someone else's player in that situation. Why send one to a club daft/desperate enough to do that?

I have to agree with this.... They can always send him back down to Jong PSV which isn’t a horrible level for him to get back to match fitness. Perhaps he’s not physically able even for that workload. Or they just want to keep him close to the first team because they expect to use him sooner than later. Who knows?

That's the beauty of under-age reserve sides playing in the pyramid; a team rehabbing a valuable prospect has any and all options available to it at any moment in time. Build up his ACLs physically? The treatment room and the gym. Flagging motivation? Garbage minutes in an already-won Eredivisie game. Test his ACLs' response(s) to real competition? 30 minutes with Jong PSV. Bad response? Back to the treatment room? Is he ready for a first-team cameo? 30 minutes in the next 3 Jong PSV games. And so on.

There really is no point in loaning him out between now and June. August or Next January is another matter. A half-season loan to another team at the bottom of the Eredivisie or in D2 could accelerate his first team readiness. In which case, a run of starts in the reserves in May will help convince potential loan destinations that he's fully-recovered. Which is yet another benefit of keeping him with Jong PSV.

He's already played 45 for Jong PSV and he's making the bench every game now...no sense putting him on the bench if he's not ready to play. It appears they think he is ready for minutes, but haven't found the right opportunity (and some coaches are not great at that). PSV played 2nd division side Telstar in a Cup game last week, but gave up an early goal, didn't go ahead until the 61st minute, and couldn't get ahead by 2, so that was a missed opportunity to use an offense-minded sub.

Someone told me last year as Ledezma was working his way back that there was a reluctance to having him play that many games with Jong PSV given the artificial turf.

At that level, if a player didn't score/get booked/get red-carded there's usually nothing except fab forum comments.

So, it's clearly a case of "if there's no news, that's good news". ;)

I guess so. I was hoping there would be more info or interest in a PSV-Ajax game, even if at the Jong level.

Also, does this mean Richie won’t feature in the Cup game today? Since he just played.

If you know Dutch, head to the fanforums.

If you don't, give up. Because the Dutch have such good English, they just write in English directly, so Dutch is one of those languages where Google Translate is pretty lousy.

Probably. It is a real bummer too. Before he was injured he was really making a push for 1st time minutes. Now it looks like he has fallen down the pecking order quite a bit. Man... an injury like that can set your career back years.

I'd suggest doing the same for @feyenoordsoccerfan but that would be cruel :sneaky:

Yeah but they probably want to get him a lot of minutes which they won’t/can’t do on first team right now.

Hope he can get back in the rotation though.

Doubtful. Very, very doubtful. They gave him some minutes as a reward for all his hard work and patience, as well as an incentive to keep going. Not to play him. No serious team will rush a player back from that kind of injury, still less a young/youth prospect.

He's had his contract extended by 2.5 years and he's training with the first team. There's no need to force things. He'll get some more spot minutes before the end of the season, maybe even a cameo or two, but challenging for starts/1st off the bench is something for next season.

PSV's record in bringing prospects to maturity speaks for itself. If they don't think he's ready, there's a 99.99999999% probability that he isn't. Let's leave it in their hands, and Richie's, and God's ( if you're so inclined)
