idk if its true or not...but this kinda move would suck from a usmnt fan perspective.....players who work hard and grind it out in europe only to give up right before they really succeed.....ughh it would suck

it bad enough when they just wash out and never get on the field, but this kinda thing would be way worse....

It's a horizontal move, at best, and players should always look for a vertical or a step-back-to-jump-better move until they reach their peak years around 28.

PSV have an offer on the table apparently and that would come with a pay rise, though not necessarily to a million a season. I'm all for players securing their financial futures but a choice between, say, 750k a season at PSV versus a million a season in Liga MX, even at Chivas, would be PSV all the way and that includes as backup RB.

Bonuses would close much of the financial gap and players want to see how good they really are. What better way than testing myself against the world's best year-on-year? Liga MX deal or MLS will still be there in 4 years when it's clear that I've reached my ceiling or I'm about to be replaced.

It would make perfect sense if he wants to play for El Tri.

You never know. El Tri doesn’t have many Champions League players. He may break through easier at PSV.

Never discount quality of life in the equation. Maybe he prefers the lifestyle or weather or the food. Maybe taxes are lower or play time is more certain. Maybe his family can more easily watch him play. It's still, for now at least, the best league in North America and MLS is certainly on par with the Eridivise at this point.

Who knows, he may even have grown up supporting Chivas or at least watching as many Liga MX as European games.

I think it's a suboptimal move but he knows his situation better than I can ever do and, like you say, it's his decision. Liga MX is still a good league and he'll be important there, which means closer to a starter status that PSV may not be offering.

transfer to Guadalajara. Is that real or just your speculation?

rumors have mostly been coming out of the Mexican press:

  9. I don't speculate, unless I tell you I'm doing it.
This all was mentioned in the PSV media.
What I posted was a translation of what was published.

I agree but I also don't know all of his offers. If in the same ballpark it's settling unless he really does want to switch and there is some acknowledgement that he needs to play in Mexico for that to happen. I hope he doesn't mainly because I don't think Mexico will give him any more chance than the US because that's what they always do.

I don't know anything about Mexican MNT politics but I'd imagine that picking a PSV rotator over a starter at Chivas, Club America, etc. is generally controversial and the kind of thing an MNT coach would avoid unless he was 110% certain that the player was going to work out. At a Top 5 CL side, yes, but not from the Eredivisie.

That's considered a bit "backward" these days but it's not so long ago that Paul Breitner and Uli Stieleke were dropped by West Germany for joining Real Madrid and they famously weren't restored to consideration until the 1980 Euros. Less self-confident footballing nations with a rich tradition that's gone unrecognized abroad are still sometimes like that

Not even a datapoint, just my speculation

Wouldn’t surprise me if he saw Chivas as a personal/cultural upgrade. Not like he’d be leaving Barca or anything like that.

If it stays like this or even if they draw level, the title is as good as gone.

FWIW Transfermarkt now lists him as "joining without club" at the end of the season.

I think Richie has worked hard enough through a ton of injuries and that the pathway is easier with Mexico. Players want to say they played in a world cup. I'd have no problem with him making a career move that puts him firmly in Mexico's sights. He's earned my admiration.

PSV pull it out in the last minute as Ajax continue their collapse. 3-2 win and 1 pt away from a repeat... Ajax beat PSV to all but lock up the title, won 2 after that then have gone 0-1-2... lf they fumble this it will be an epic flop.

For those who don't get what @freisland is referring to, Ajax lost 3-0 this evening to NEC Nijmegen - at home.

Their lead has gone from 7 points two weeks ago to just a single point and they have a harder run-in. Watch the last game closely: Twente would just love to deny them title at the Ajax Arena.

Dear Richie, if you're out there, PLEASE abandon your thoughts of switching to Mexico. The chance of playing in a World Cup just isn't worth losing adam tash's respect.

players can do what they want

but that fact doesnt mean we as fans must respect what they choose to do with their freedom

furthermore, when we dont respect player decisions it doesnt mean that we dont want them to have the freedom that they do...it just means that their actions dont merit our respect

an american player, especially one who has played for the usmnt (and likewise usynts, too) who then goes and declares for mexico....will lose my respect 100% of the time

opportunistic people come a dime a dozen...they are just blowing in the wind

There has been no advancement in Richie Ledezma joining Liga MX side Chivas, sources say.
Interest remains though, as well as from clubs in Italy, France, Greece and the EFL Championship.
PSV also still has contract extension on table. #USMNT #ElTri
