His more immediate club problem is his contract with PSV expires in 6 months and he likely reverts to his role of never seeing the pitch once Dest and Karsdrop are both fit again or very little if one is fit and the other isn't.

According to capology.com his salary is €390k a season, which I'm sure he could pick up in MLS (their salaries can't be that low, can they ) but there's this little wrinkle of the Dutch minimum salary for non-EU over-20s, which was a smidge over €500k a year last season. In the summer IIRC @bshredder mentioned that he's on that amount at least.**

For comparison, Moore is on $880k at Nashville and Reggie Cannon gets $750k FFS. Meanwhile, PSV released #3 RB, Shurandy Sambo, in the summer. He joined Burnley on a free, reportedly making £300-320k. Sambo got 122 league minutes last season, 85 of them in a last game dead rubber and made the CL bench.

Richie has 700 minutes already, 100 of them in the CL. Assuming a slightly pessimistic no more than 10 minutes per game over the rest of the season, he's on track for 800 league minutes alone this season. He'll definitely get more than Sambo's £300-320k in Europe.

    **
I think we need @bshredder to weigh in, even if it's only with a hint or two

  4. They're wrong.
Minimum pay for older than 20 is150% of average Eredivisie paycheck.
Current number is €470,354.=, so Richie at least makes €700,000.=

PSV have played 14 league games with Ledezma starting 7, getting non-garbage minutes in another and a CL start on top. All his PT has come with him played out of/in a new position at RB.

That's a profile - CM who can play RB at high levels - that the Eredivisie's "Next 3" (AZ, Twente and Utrecht) would be very interested in. The non-EU minimum of €500k might be an issue in the Netherlands - that's starter/first-off-the-bench territory for those - but EL and Conference sides in Belgium and Portugal would have few difficulties with 70-80% of that.

Neither would the Old Firm. And a cap or two in summer friendlies could see him get a WP at a good Championship side where 500k is below the league average.

He's been at PSV for 5 years and has 25 Eredivisie appearances mostly as a sub. He's an end of squad player with a first team contract being used right now as an emergency RB on a dominant team that can afford to play him under such circumstances.

Once Dest and Karsdrop return he's most likely destined to go back to the end of the squad and receive limited to no minutes.

He is out of contract in 6 months and was recently sent out on loan to MLS with his contract running down. That's not a good sign.

I don't share your optimism regarding his future prospects in Europe based on this small run of games while PSV has an injury crisis at RB but happy to be wrong.

Yeah, but the ones paying it can poney up the cash. That's why the less affluent clubs want a change, so they can afford non RU players too.

That's universally agreed to be the situation and if a number is given, it's always about €1.9m which could - emphasis on could - be the reason for de Jong getting starts no matter what: he agreed a low salary with stonking scorer's bonuses to top it up.

There's also the possibility that his agent negotiated some very lucrative sponsorship deals in the Netherlands as a result of him returning home. IIRC something like that was organized by/for Mignolet when he left Liverpool for Brugge, rejecting a few EPL gigs in the process.

It could also be some combination of both

  12. I watched him regulaly under Ruud van Nistelrooij in Young PSV and I liked his game very much. RvN and then first team coach van Bommel both were quite fond of him. Unfortunately right in the year he made the jump to the first team selection, he got seriously injured.
Wasnot helpfull the two who liked him were ousted from the club.
I'm pretty confident Richie will find a club in Europe, if it doesnot work out with PSV.

Europe is a big place with thousands of clubs.

The more interesting question is the level and opining what club, group of clubs or what league you think he will wind up at after PSV in 6 months and at what salary price point.

Perhaps with one eye on Brest coming up Tuesday, rotated side for PSV today, including starts for Ledezma, Pepi, and Tillman.

Guaranteed to be that way IMO.

They've got only 8 points and face Liverpool on the last day. Even a draw against Brest leaves them needing just one point against Red Star Belgrade to qualify for the next round.

A loss OTOH means travelling to Belgrade needing a win to be sure of qualification and Red Star have nothing to play for except pride at this stage. It's the sort of game that has "banana skin" written all over it

Two losses means they'd have to beat Liverpool on the last day to progress. It's home and the Koppites will have already booked their place but I still wouldn't fancy having to chasing a victory.

This is one place I'd love to eat crow. nothing would be more fun than for Ledezma to displace Karsdorp before Xmas and be the starting PSV FB in spring. Twente just got wood-enscheded - ouch.

    (Tillman and Pepi scored too.)

It finished 6-1 to the Lightbulbs FFS, following a 5-2 defeat of Utrecht at the weekend

That's two of the Eredivisie's "Next 3" defeated in one week by an aggregate of 11-3.

With Ajax sure to win at the weekend, they're really only 6 points clear, but they have a GD of more than 25 over the pursuit.

If Feyenoord don't beat them on the 22nd, the title race will become a procession like last season

  22. Ahem, Ajax lost 5 of the last 6 matches against AZ Alkmaar, including the last 2.

Didn't know Ajax were playing AZ. Hope Parrott scores too, but they'd better win or it's going to be near-impossible to catch PSV.

Ajax and AZ at the moment are both fairly different teams. Ajax is not as good as their recent results but AZ sure have been playing like an out-of-the-money team, both in league and Europa. Even their last two wins have been as unimpressive as they come. It's almost like that thrashing of 'veen just unmoored them. But PSV really look untouchable this season. Their 2nd choice outfield line-up, esp once Dest comes back, seems almost good enough to win the league.
