The PSV "counter" generally comes from the wings - with the 9 as the "pivot"/AM (if needed - often the counter/fast break is a FB/Winger single-sided overload - then perhaps a cross to the 9 or far side winger.) One thing Bosz could have done - and did a little bit - was play Pepi as a winger, but unlike, say Jozy, Pepi does not slide into that role all that easily. Not that he can't play it in games that are over, but he would never add as much as some of PSV's benchers - whether it was Lang, Tillman, Chucky, etc. who was not starting. Also, while a bit of wing play wouldn't hurt Pepi's tactical and positional education, his top-shelf future, to the extent he has one, is leading the line, so ultimately, that's where you want most of his minutes to be.
Good positioning, good movement, composed finishes. The level of opposition was low, but you can only beat what's put in front of you. He's looking very good in a team that is as impressive as last season in the league
That's a b.s. ruling, if it stands. It was delivered by Pepi off the inside of the post & thru the keeper. Was going in. That's a crime if they take a hat trick away from him. Regardless, he scored 3 goals for his team, & took them well. Big performance. And as a bonus, LDJ missed a pk. So Pepi's stock has to be going way up in Bosz's eyes. Use him in UCL!
Plenty OK, OK, 5 goals in 340 Eredvisie minutes, which is plenty good enough for any team's purposes.
In the 10 games played this season, they have faced only 1 side from the top 10 or the UEFA places, a 2-1 victory against AZ. The next 8 games contain 5 UEFA place contenders - Ajax, surprise 2nd place Utrecht, Twente, Feyenoord and another game against AZ. We'll have a much better sense of PSV's real standing after those games.
Yep- now through winter break PSV have a lot of decent times to face. They've gotten some folks back from injury and/or up to fitness, esp at FB, so that should help. Be interesting to see how they hold up, but it's nice for Pepi that LdJ is not on fire again this year (missed PK today) and that Pepi is lighting it up when he gets a chance. Hope he keeps it up against stiffer competition.
That ties him with De Jong and Tillman for most on the team with far less minutes. Also tied for 2nd most in the league
https://www.vi.nl/nieuws/bosz-legt-uit-waarom-tweede-spits-pepi-zo-geduldig-blijft Bosz explains why second striker Pepi remains so patient 21.17, Today "I'm patient," PSV striker Ricardo Pepi was clear about his role in Eindhoven. The American scores easily, but is not the first striker of the Eindhoven team. Trainer Peter Bosz explains why Pepi complies with being plan B. It is that Pepi's third goal against PEC Zwolle was awarded as an own goal, otherwise the striker would have been the Eredivisie top scorer of the Eindhoven team. A remarkable achievement, considering he only got two starting spots this season. "I understand him," Bosz responded to ESPN after he was confronted with the statements of the patient Pepi. 'Because it was well agreed with him at the front. Earnest Stewart (PSV director, ed.) has brought him in and said what his role is, namely behind Luuk de Jong. He knows that. There has been no discussion about whether that will take a year or six months. If Luuk performs the way he does, Pepi will be the second striker.' The striker with a past at FC Groningen was happy with his match against PEC. 'This was a special night for the team and for me personally. We wanted to show that we can play two good games a week, so I'm happy with the result. I've always said I'm ready when I'm allowed to start, I've shown that.'
