Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere Maybe they mean a signing bonus for Rico? That would be the only thing that makes sense.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere I wonder if this is similar to the Movsisyan deal with Randers?
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere Does Rico go by "Federazione calcistica degli Stati Uniti"?
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere I think it's because Clark is agreeing to a pre-contract. If you've played for a club during the previous period of time (like Clark will have) you can't just go somewhere else once your contract is up, I think.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere I am exTREEEEmely dubious that a club is offering 4M Euros for half a season of Rico Clark. There's something else going on. That one's pretty murky. Maybe. As I recall it, yeah, they turned down a couple of bids, one of which looked pretty good. But as I recall it, that was in the context of considering making Kenny a DP. So it was a bit more complicated than the Twellman case.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere The way I'm reading the article it seems as though they're conflating MLS and the USSF. They mean MLS.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere Funny story about free agency. The first time I played Championship Manager, I assumed that free agents to be in soccer were like free agents in the NBA, MLB, etc. Namely, that it is strictly forbidden to "tamper" with them until their contracts have run out. So I (not so) smartly bought a guy whose contract was going to run out in 2 months for a bargain basement price. (This was before transfer windows.) I couldn't add him to my roster until the next season, but hey, I locked him in with mighty Cardiff! Basically, I pissed the money down the drain because I didn't understand the rules. I didn't know about pre-contracts. wz has it right, FirstStar.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere This has to be the most confusing and convoluted transfer saga in quite a while.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere Yeah, there's something not right there. If Ricardo's available in January on a free, then they don't need to pay anything for him to come then. And if they pay......something........to get him for half a season.........4 million Euros is waaaaaaaaay too steep. Maybe I'm missing something. If I was Ricardo I'd certainly want to go now. But I can also understand Houston's desire to keep him around till November. If Mulrooney had stayed healthy, it might be a different story.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere I completely agree. I think we can't trust any Italian source on this, especially Livorno based. They are too quick to jump to conclusions. Negotiations are probably still going on. We can just wait until it's formally announced, or there is a better source, ie Dynamo front office.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere Those guys didn't get to be so rich by being mentally retarded when it comes to business though.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere If the Italian story is correct what would the Dynamo have to announce? That Rico is leaving after the season is up? Since his contract expires at that time it doesn't strike me as something they would hold a presser for...
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere Transfer window won't open again until January. Just because the season ends in Novemeber doesn't mean that Clark's contract ends in November. It could end at the end of the calander year.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere True, but if we have a Yura Movsisyan situation, ie pre-contract and Clark leaving in January, I would expect similar articles and news items as for Yura.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere As we've discussed above, this is indeed the case. MLS contracts end at the end of the calender year.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere I don't have time to translate the most recent article because I'm out the door, but it mentions 1) that Rico won't arrive before the end of Ocober, and 2) that the economic details of the deal haven't been disclosed yet.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere SBI is reporting that Clark has agreed to terms with Livorno but that the transfer is to take place in the January window. The piece cites a report in the italian news that their fo is confirming his capture but says that they cannot deprive 1st place houston of their player ahead of the cup. http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_...ar-game-clark-signs-for-livorno-and-more.html
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere It must be a free transfer in January. Livorno couldn't work out a transfer deal to get him now, so they'll just wait. Makes sense to me.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere Maybe Livorno is paying MLS a small fee for Clark's services from when the Dynamo season ends until the end of the year (a loan if you will). Then he will sign a new contract with them starting in January.
Translated from Costa Ovest: Clark is a Livorno player with a 3-year contract Ricardo Anthony Clark, 26 years old, is a Livorno player. The U.S. midfielder, one of the pillars of the Houston Dynamo, has been signed by Livorno. The announcement was made to a satellite TV station by Livorno's president, Aldo Spinelli, who made clear that it is a 3-year contract. At least at the beginning the player, who will not arrive in Italy before October, will most likely live at Camp Darby, the American military base. The precise economic details of the transfer are still not known. In the last few days a fee of around 3 and a half million was being spoken of. The Houston Dynamo will not directly receive economic compensation. Livorno will have to pay an agreed portion to the U.S. league, as well as for the contract of the player. The list of achievements won by Clark include a victory in the Gold Cup, as well as the silver medal at the recent Confederations Cup, both with the U.S. national team, with which the Atlanta-born player has appeared 14 times. http://www.costaovest.info/index.ph...-contratto-triennale&catid=41:sport&Itemid=49
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere You can't transfer internationally outside a transfer window. Won't work.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere Apparently, Clark doesn't want to play once he gets to Livorno. Gets to have a 2-month layoff, then try to jump into the team in the middle of their season. Good thinkin'.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere Oh god what a hole. At least he'll only have to cross the street in the unlikely event he wants a tranny prostitute. I can't imagine him staying longer than it takes to call a real estate agent.
Re: Ricardo Clark Transfer Rumors: Livorno and Elsewhere Congrats to Rico! Considering I had him as the 6th central midfielder on the US depth chart in May, it's been a great summer for him.
