just wondering who chelsea fans think should partner john terry in the heart of the chelsea defence? both are quality defenders, but carvahlo has been favoured to gallas at CB since chelsea's reign of success with gallas proving his versatility at LB and RB as well as sometimes CB, however some believe that galas is better than carvahlo at CB as carvahlo tends to commit too many fouls close to goal? its also been said that gallas has become unsettled at chelsea as he has been played out of position and that consequently he may leave in the near future, in my opinion chelsea cant afford to offload gallas to another competitor, so the question must be asked who should be the CB partner for john terry at chelsea?
I say it should be Gallas whenever possible. I'd venture that at least 75% percent of us on this board will share that view as well.
At least. The numbers with Gallas at the back rather than Carvalho are stark. Last season nearly all the goals scored against us were with Carvalho playing CB.
Ricky is a wonderful player...but give me Gallas any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Thank you very much.
Carvahlo....it should definitely be Huth and Carvalho starting. [/waits for inevitable you still wouldn't score reply/]
If the question is who is better, it is between Gallas and Terry, because Gallas is surely better than Carvalho. Unless the thread means, 'who should start'.
Appearently Mourinho believes Gallas and Carvalho are both too good to leave out of the starting XI. I for one come from the school of thought that says: it isn't as important to put out the best players, as it is to put out the right ones. We need to stop trying to force square pegs into round holes(Gallas at fullback, especially when we have good fullbacks), and stop this nonsense.
i guess mourinho's reply would be that if the defence aint broken then dont fix it, or in other words if the chelsea defence is conceding so little and has done with gallas at fullback for over a year now then why should the defence be tampered with?
I don't think being Portuguese had anything to do with it. Being at Porto, perhaps because Mourinho knew what he was getting. I think Gallas is a better fit for us. But Carvalho did win European defender of the year award the year Porto won the champions league. So theres no doubting he is quality. Also Chelsea were interesting in signing King from Tottenham at the time, but Carvalho was cheaper, so we signed him instead. Whose better, King or Carvalho?. I don't think its even close.
Well, I actually think its closer than you think. Also, King is younger, and English. And a better foil for Terry, who clearly does better with a faster player next to him. We have two slow CBs, one fast, and one with decent speed. I've always felt that when Gallas is not playing CB we lose speed at that position. With King, we'd get that. I think the rumors this past August of our interest in King made sense. Were Carvalho or Gallas to leave, he'd definitely be on my short list. Plus, just like Sol, he has to know he'll have to leave Spurs to actually win anything.
I only have a problem with Gallas at LB. I'm fine with him being played at RB - he can cross from that side and he's right footed. He's also a much better defender against more physical players than Ferreira.
unless you need a goal in the dying minutes against Barca - then defo the Terry /Carvalho double act Not saying it was a foul on the keeper, but it was a "very professional" piece of play by Carvalho, and I bet you when it time to pick team sheets, that Jose does not forget that Carvalho came through for him there... so maybe he might start more games than the defensive stats should suggest?
