Let's pretend that Tuchel did NOT take over for Lampard and turn the club around and win the Champion's League. Let's also pretend that Santa Claus is real and He lives in Cleveland.
lets pretend that what have you done for me lately isnt the overarching theme for managers and that tuchel hasnt had a very poor track record in actually sticking around at clubs. chelsea at this rate might need to repeat as champions league winners to qualify again. the attack is flaccid.
“We happy few ....” Chelsea squad on the field did not look happy ... If you aren’t happy you may not play well. now why aren’t they happy is a great question. I could speculate like anyone could .... but something is off and it must not be a great place to be right now.
today's results were not great for Chelski. Will be kinda funny if they beat Spurs for the cup, but Spurs beat them for 3rd (I don't really think Spurs have it in them long term, and that was insane today, but on "maths" Spurs have a decent claim for 3rd atm.)
"Poor track record" is emo. He was smart to leave PSG after a great season there, but did not get the backing that he deserved. He was the most successful manager in PSG history and the most successful manager in Dortmund history. He just won the Champions League with Chelsea. We are mid-season and people are already burying Tuchel. It's a joke.
Poor record is a joke for sure. But 3 clubs in succession, maybe, act the same? Coincidence? Everyone attacking a legend? An outside with no emotional ties might look into burning bridges or relationship issues with management and/or players. We are talking big egos. One's I cannot relate to but some posters here just might.
If Chelsea get back to form it’s a long shot TT moves on, but it’s hard to ignore 3 wins in last 11 league games and some cranky big money players… if they don’t regain form all bets are off. He probably has a year of good will in the bank but if he doesn’t get this team on the up he may not want to stay.
You are not viewing this with the lens of Chelsea management. Di Matteo joined Chelsea in March 2012, won both Champions League and FA Cup and was canned in November that year! Rightly or wrongly, Chelsea’s management move quickly when things are heading in the wrong direction. They have dismissed some top well-known coaches before, when it could be argued they deserved more time on clock. So I think many of us are commenting while also taking in consideration Chelsea’s known decisionmaking timetable. They pull the trigger real quick there. Tuchel has a number of games here to demonstrate he has a 2nd act- some different formation ideas and ways to motivate his squad to perform better. But keep in mind- playing boring at Chelsea and not winning Championships and Cups can also get you canned at Chelsea (even if you are top 4) Finally, personality conflicts can get you canned at Chelsea- no matter how good you are. Tuchel obviously not the biggest people person. He is no Ancelotti in terms of getting along with all stakeholders. His stint at Dortmund was not very long (where he infamously pissed off the CEO many times). He did well at PSG but also had an abundance of talent playing in a weaker league. But you are right in saying he was their most successful coach. So he needs to keep his nose clean and retain the trust of Chelsea’s management not just on the field but off. Nothing like this (below) can happen ===================== His tenure as first-team coach was marred with controversy, with a strained relationship with the club's hierarchy, notably CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke,[47] who described Tuchel as a "difficult person".[9] Tuchel publicly criticized Watzke after he agreed to UEFA's demand that the club play their Champions League quarter-final first leg match against Monaco on 12 April 2017, one day after the team's bus being bombed.[48] He also reportedly expressed discontent over transfer activity, with Watzke sanctioning the departures of Hummels, Gündoğan, and Mkhitaryan, despite guarantees they would not leave. Tuchel also maintained fractured relations with club stalwarts Roman Weidenfeller, Neven Subotić, and Jakub Błaszczykowski, and aimed to replace the trio, which Watzke disagreed with.[49] Tuchel aimed to sign defender Ömer Toprak in 2016, a move allegedly blocked by Watzke and chief scout Sven Mislintat, the latter of whom was effectively banished from the training ground after an argument with Tuchel.[50] Moreover, the club also chased midfielder Óliver Torres behind Tuchel's back in 2017.[51] Tuchel's tenure at Paris Saint-Germain was marred by a fractured relationship with the club's hierarchy. In an interview with German television station Sport 1, he said he felt "[more like] a politician in sport" than a coach.[122] These comments, as well as his previous criticism over the club's transfer activity, were condemned by PSG's sporting director Leonardo, who said Tuchel "[must] respect the people above [him]", and labelled the comments as damaging for the club.[123][119] Tuchel and Leonardo reportedly fell out over the signing of defensive midfielderDanilo Pereira, with the coach requesting a central defender; in response, Tuchel often fielded Pereira as a central defender.[124][125]
Let me help make it crystal clear for a few on here. Chelsea invested well over 300M in attacking players. If you can't get these guys to perform, you replace the manager; not the 300M worth of players.
It seems you have missed the memo. The board don't give AF. There's still zero evidence which shows that Lukaku was a TT buy. But rather, it was a board decision.
If Chelsea don't get top 4, he will be sacked. If Chelsea don't get semifinals of the CL, he will be sacked. It's all about results. He will get both.
Bayern lost at home this season to Augsburg and Moenchengladbach. Spain 2007-12 is considered the best national team of all time. They lost to the USA in 2009. Chit happens. Wait and see.
Maybe. But 4th is kinda been-there, done-that for Chelski at this point. I think if Chelski fall to 4th somehow (fairly hard to do rn, but technically possible) there will be a lot of unhappiness, TT will be blaming players and folks might decide that everyone will be happier with a change of scenery. But I think most likely they limp into 3rd, maybe even barely miss 2nd and if the team is not in revolt, he gets another year. But as I said earlier someplace, some coaches - esp player-legends like Lampard or Ole, or "nice guys" who players like, tend to get a bit more rope. I don't think folks go out of their way for TT. But I'm just a dude with a keyboard and a modem, so I surely don't know. Time will tell.
Things don't happen in a vacuum. Injuries and COVID have played significant roles this season. For example, Left back Chilwell out since Nov 23 with ACL, Right back Reece James out since Dec 29 with hamstring, Chalobah out since Jan 3 with hamstring TSilva and Kante (second time this season!) out 2 games in Jan because of COVID Kai Havertz out with broken finger Christensen out with various injuries etc. etc. etc. Tuchel didn't forget how to coach, and the team doesn't win the CL unless they are a true TEAM. All this stuff piles up over time.
as things stand now ... Tottenham and Arsenal (with games in hand) can go by CFC in the standings and put them (theoretically) in 5th place. Yes injuries and all the games back to back and so forth - but results are results and between Lukaku, Mount, Ziyech, Havertz, CHO, Werner (removing Pulisic) etc. they are not scoring ... for all Lampard's inexperience they were more dynamic in the attack with Mount and Pulisic and Abraham .... perhaps the recent poor body language was just the team being tired .... but with this payroll TT has to do better than (on paper) 5th place ... heck they should be competing for 1st or 2nd .... I guess I will accept the alternate view of the Champions League opportunity and the other cups and medal chances .. but it certainly does not look very good right now.
For sure. I've said on this thread for months that Chillwell was the straw that started the back breaking. To be clear, I don't think this is all on TT or even that he should leave/be pushed out. I'm just saying that if thing continue as they are, given what I've seen with Chelski and what I think is TT's comfort level with not being seen as successful, I think if Chelski slip into a race for 4th and don't win a cup or get to CL finals, there will likely be a lot of snarling behind the scenes and TT could easily find it worth moving elsewhere. But again, I got no idea. I think (and I've said many times) TT did an amazing job getting Chelski D to gel and play a style that shored them up on the D end (and Mendy has been fire as well.) I just also think he's the kind of guy not to fight through a bunch of super-high-priced players campaigning against him. One Lukaku here or there won't matter, but if it starts spreading, dunno if he's the type to ride it out and if Chelski's the place to back him over players. But I'm just shooting the breeze. I got no real idea.
Damn Chelsea....put Havertz on the phone with one Mr. Clint Dempsey to understand how we solve such a minor issue and still play.... Clint Dempsey punched window, cut up hand while with Fulham - SBNation.com
A couple of things. Covid and injuries have impacted virtually every team. Teams with smaller and less glamorous benches yet they find a way to manage. I wonder why. With the exception of Reece James prior to injury, all the younger players have regressed since the arrival of Tuchel. Also, even when Chelsea started out the season in fine form, it still wasn’t the attack that was leading the line. There is a common denominator here.
Chelsea have no attacking plan other than to counter fast down the middle and hope to get a shot off or take the ball wide down the flanks, hit a cross and hope the ball hits someone's head and goes in. Halfway decent teams can defend against that, as we can see. On the defensive side, Chelsea have major players out and are giving up probably close to a goal per game more than normal under Tuchel. Losses are few, wins are way down and draws are way up. One more CFC goal or one less opposition goal per game changes the picture enormously. The change cannot presently come from the defensive side. This is unfortunate for both fans and Tuchel, because TT does not seem to have a grasp of the attacking side of the game.
Your comparing one game for Spain and 2 for Bayern to what would be a season full of results for Chelsea. And you’re talking about an owner in RA who is quick to fire managers. Chelsea finishing 4th this year would mean someone like Man U or Tottenham finished ahead of them. I don’t know that I would fire Tuchel for that, but im fairly certain that Abramovich would be very unhappy about it.
