Personally I'd like to see him see out the rest of the season. There's the club world cup coming up which he has the potential of becoming the first American ever to win (correct me if I'm wrong on that? - not counting Jovan Kirovski as that was the old Intercontinental Cup) and there's the small matter of possible winning the premiership this season too. However, if he wants to go to a less physical league to be fit for the 2022 World Cup over the summer wouldn't mind seeing him do that...
https://www.si.com/soccer/chelsea/t...g-christian-pulisic-on-loan-in-january-window 12 HOURS AGO Report: Genoa 'Dream' of Landing Christian Pulisic On Loan in January Window MATT DEBONO Genoa are very keen on the loan signing of Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic, according to reports. The 23-year-old has had a frustrating 2021/22 campaign so far after contracting Covid-19 back in August, before returning and sustaining an ankle injury on USMNT international duty in September. Pulisic's ankle injury kept him out for the whole of September and the majority of October, before he made his return against Malmo on October 20. Calciomercato in Italy, Genoa who are managed by Andriy Shevchenko are extremely interested in signing the Blues winger on loan in January. He is regarded by the Italian side as a 'dream' signing for the winter market. Newcastle United have also been linked with the Chelsea star. said Pulisic on his ankle injury which kept him out for nearly two months. "It is tough to not be able to play, do what I love and help my team. I am thrilled to be back and it is great to be back within the team. "I would say, as far as fitness, I am close to where I want to be but that I can still improve and that comes with minutes. I played it quite smart in how I came back with not too much too soon. It has been really good. I am happy with the way I feel right now."
Interested in who the rumors are claiming Barca would swap for him. I'm trying to think of what player is superfluous at Barca right now that Chelsea believes helps them more than CP. Wonder who that is (or who the rumor makers are claiming it would be.)
I would prefer Havertz in the false 9 position in the absence of Lukaku. Puli belongs in the wing except he has a lot of competition at that position (Cho, Ziyech, Warner, Mount).
FdJ has been linked with both Manchesters iirc in the past few weeks for like 75 mill... Xavi claims they're not shopping him, but if they are, I'd be surprised if they give up the cash to trade fairly similar players, but what do I know?
Frenkie De Jong or Pedri would be great for us. But honestly, Chelsea don't need to sell or swap Pulisic, a loan is unlikely to happen given that Pulisic is playing plenty for us. And I doubt Pulisic wants to be on a total circus right now.
Sure, who wouldn't be happy to add them if money was no object and they didn't care about playing time, I just don't really see what compels Barca to trade one of their higher-value players. If you're a broke team and you've got a guy in demand for cash-money, that's the move you make, and you buy two "we hope they turn out to be Pulisics/Frenkies." I don't know what Barca gains by a straight trade of midfielder for midfielder. But maybe there's an angle where it makes sense.
It'll be interesting to see how much Pulisic plays now that everyone is fit and CHO is getting his run while in form. With Lukaku back, I expect him to start next match...so that leaves one spot between Werner, Harvetz, Mount, Zeyech and Pulisic....There will be rotation but I still see at least 2 attackers not getting much time...It's gonna be hard to keep 7 attackers happy with their playing time. That also explains the rumors about Pulisic or Zeyech leaving as soon as this January.....I hope Pulisic stays and fight for his spot, but someone has to go..and Pulisic is probably more marketable than Zeyech since he's younger.
I have always thought CHO could be a starter. He still makes some odd decisions here and there, and carries himself like a bit of a loner out there. But he is playing with that chip on his shoulder now, in a good way. I think TT has to play him ahead of CP unless and until CP produces more from the wing. Mount seems plugged in to a high amount of playing time for all the “intangibles“ reasons that people like about him. Ziyech is also in good form. It doesn’t surprise me that he and Pulisic combine well. In fact I suspect a front line of those two plus Lukaku would develop into something really nice. But we probably won’t see that because Mount and CHO are probably going to displace the wings on the depth chart, and that front line probably doesn’t give TT the pressing ability that he wants. Still, I bet it would be the most fun to watch trio offensively. If Pulisic wants to be a super sub on a trophy winning team, he is probably where he needs to be. If he wants to be a more central figure, he probably needs to find a new home—preferably in a league that is called a little closer than the EPL.
No doubt Barca need something. Problem is they need 2 things: Goals and Money. I'm just a rando on twitter but if they really think they can live without FdJ (which Xavi has denied fwiw) do they really take the chance on CP (who has not be indestructible in England/US)? It's possible, but if I were running Barca, much as I'd love to see CP there, that is not the trade I make. It seems too much like for like with no financial reward. Part of Barca's problem is they need a CP type for much less money. But I'd love to see him there and see if he can bootstrap that team.
I feel like I missed something somewhere along the way. So many people are talking about Puli leaving over not playing, when he has been unavailable for most of the season. All that has been posted here are pie in the sky rumors and wish lists that seem really out there. He is getting all the minutes his body can handle, and appears to be an important part of the team. At the very top there is always competition for minutes and there is always rotation. He is a part of the core and scores at a reasonable pace, I can't understand why either party would be unhappy with how much he plays when available. In modern football a team can go from an embarrassment of riches to a real need at a position in just a few kicks of the ball. Top teams have a next man up expectation of continuing to win and playing the "beautiful game" even though the side may be diminished due to injuries. I certainly do not see him going anywhere before season's end. Then i think both sides will assess their options and how likely they are to be able to come to terms on a new contract at season's end, as well as potential interest from other teams.
Why in the world would Tuchel want to change anything about this current team (including Pulisic as a sometimes starter, sometimes bench). They are the perfect embodiment currently of what Tuchel has wanted to achieve. The smart money is on Tuchel changing nothing because the competition he has creates for spots has forced all the players to raise their game to get in the side. They gets goals from everywhere and are totally unpredictable to play against. They have a world-class defense. I see absolutely nothing to change. I would not even think about off-loading Werner and Ziyech (unless Abramovich running out of funds) since you never know with injuries who will get a necessary run in the side. As for Christian, he is playing for the best side in the whole of Europe. His coach gives him every chance to compete and keep a starting spot. There is absolutely no reason to change anything. This is actually the dream we want for all our Yanks Abroad
You keep giving TT's perspective, when I am talking about CP's perspective. I don't disagree with anything you say here about TT's incentives, but they are beside my point.
I could even see Pulisic getting some time in one of the wingback roles at some point, although still always preferred up top. All depends on his performances and the others crowded up top (and injuries)
It appears your point is that CP would not be happy as a super sub on a trophy winning team in the EPL. Well duh!! It is not apparent that his role is as you describe. When fit and in form he starts more often than not. Chelsea had over 5k minutes last year. Our lad played almost half of those minutes and was unavailable for long periods of time.
It has been noted earlier in this thread that neither he nor his people want him to play there. If that were to happen then I might lend some credence to the click bait rumors that get shared as if they had even a modicum of credibility.
I think it would be stop-gap, if it were to come to pass. Not a permanent move or permanent thought by Tuchel
