The real travesty is playing after his Honduras injury, likely worsening it. It’s amazing the US soccer press has come down on Berhalter for that. Actually, it’s entirely predictable, but still shameful.
Well there's a lot of room between Chelsea and MLS, so it's not like CP doesn't have viable options if a scenario happened where he's not entirely happy with his current club. I can't see him wanting to opt out of the next NT window if he's cleared to play, regardless of any subtle or not-so-subtle nudging on the part of Chelsea for him to focus on club play.
It won't take that much if one or both parties want to move on. A lot still, but that fee was pretty inflated in the first place, and players being sold for a loss isn't exactly some super rare situation.
This correct. Every time someone posts that it will take buying out the full contract they are making the assumption that Pulisic would rather play less for more money. At those stratospheric heights that may not be true.
I mean that seemed like it was very much Pulisic’s call to try and play on it than it was Berhalter’s. Like only so many things you can do if the player says he’s good to go. Though I don’t think he worsened it. He came off pretty quickly as it was pretty clear he couldn’t actually go.
Chelsea has no say in the matter. If CP wants to come and Beerholder wants him to come, he can come. If CP doesn't want to come or his people convince him it's best to rest, or Chelsea/TT convince him it's important to only risk injury in Chelski games or GB tells him he'd rather he get more fit, he won't come. He is, indeed, the GAM in this situation - as befitting a dude with his skill and salary.
You guys are fixated on moving Puli out of Chelsea. Under Tuchel he has played in every game where he has been available. But, ok, let's say he wants to leave. His salary is a big obstacle, even bigger than the transfer fee because if they want to let him go, I'm sure Chelsea will be ok losing 30m quid on that fee. What team is ready to pay nearly 8 million pounds/year salary for a guy with CP's limitations, right now?
Of course. But to act like CP and advisors are not 100% in the drivers seat is just not reality. How often do we see a top international star play a league game for a club - then skip an important International Window when they want to participate? It is 100% the exception.
Too many "if" there to expect him to come no matter, who is the boss. Especially I can't believe that Gregg would say "Come here, we need you 100% or not", because actually not 100% CP would be decremental to the team, exactly like JOB at the 2006 WC.
Why anyone would want CP to leave a team that just won the Champions' League and currently sits at the top of the Premier League table is beyond me. Unless he gets frozen to the bench, which there's no evidence to suggest will happen.
I'm pretty sure it will be driven by CP and his folks. If CP says: "Hey Gregg, I feel great, I'm going to play against Burnley and I want to be on the bench as a supersub, these games are really important to me." do you really think Gregg says: "Nah stay home"? Obviously everyone will have some input but when you are a player of CP's caliber, unless you're some kind of discipline problem, if you say you really want to be there and you are getting live-action minutes for your club and are clearly fit, it's pretty hard for a coach of Beerholder's level to decline that. If CP is on the fence, and needs Beerholder to give him an out, that's another matter.
I hate Chelski but there is nothing at the moment that suggest leaving makes any sense in any universe. "I'd prefer not to be in the running to win the EPL, all things considered" is not a take you hear from many footie players.
Is Chelsea's defense the best in Europe this season? They have given up only 3 league goals in 10 games. Well, maybe Napoli might have something to say.
Meanwhile... Breaking: Christian Pulisic is back in the #Chelsea squad to face Malmo.— Absolute Chelsea (@AbsoluteChelsea) November 1, 2021
Came here to post exactly this. Now maybe our armchair sports medicine specialists can take a well deserved break before they injure themselves typing all their arguments about CP's fragility
A perfect match for CP to make a come back. Chelsea should be winning this game comfortably prior to introducing CP in the 75th minute.
Nice to see puli back. Haven't seen much Chelsea yet but will catch tomorrow's game when he comes in.
Cool. So he came back in the timeline for a grade 2 ankle sprain. Now all the morons can go back to finding something else to complain about
