..think alike! aha so far i have seen the attendance go from 500 (goff) to 1200 kp, to 1500 on the news.
Funny, we were talking about this very thing on the way there. I expected a low turnout because it just didnt allow enough time for most to get of work and get down there. It was still great tho. My friends argument is that its better to have a smaller crowed so the players are not mobbed. My argument was its better to have the largest crowd possible so nastly little things from **************s like Mr Kornholer didnt crop up in papaers and what not. it also amazed me the difference in crowd guestimate from channel to channel.. one said several hundred, one said 200, and one said a few THOUSAND. Funny.
To have it Saturday would mean having it 6 days after it happened. Last I saw most people have short attention spans, I think you just would have about the same amount show up. It's also the weekend before Thanksgiving, some people will have started traveling. And Saturday is also the day after the expansion draft. So you wouldn't have a complete team, or you'd have at least one guy trying to figure out either what he can do for fun in Salt Lake City, or how he's going to afford living in LA. Especially this year, I don't think the logistics work out for that long of a wait.
Behind the Badge: A Celebration "Just after 6:30, Dave Johnson - the television voice of the Black-and-Red - took the stage amid cheers and drumming from the crowd of over 1,200. Johnson introduced Kevin Payne, President and CEO of D.C. United, who in turn invited the stage party to join with him in recognizing "the best damn fans in Washington, D.C." for their part in helping to bring the team's fourth MLS Cup trophy home. " According to this article by John Roushkolb we drew "over 1200." Goff said 500...thats a pretty big variance.
Most estimates I've heard put the attendance at over 1k--that's pretty respectable. I wish I could have gone, but I got in from LA on a red-eye on Tuesday AM and was chained to my desk doing all the work I blew off Monday and Friday until late Tues nite. Not the best time to have a rally--I think the weekend would ahve been better. The people who show up at these kinds of things are diehards, not the general public who will forget about DC's victory in a couple days.
I think the attendance puzzle is pretty easy to figure out. Remember they gave out tickets, I'm sure that is what DCU used to come up with their number.
they used little roller things on entrance to count, not tickets. At least Barra went in without tickets in a group of 50.
