Anyone have inside news on Claudio's future? I know he says he'll stay at Sunderland. What's more, I think a year in the first division might suit his injury comeback. But some Sunderland supporters I've spoken to think there's no chance he'll be around. I can't imagine any decent club would want him right after an injury.
Reyna will most probably start the new season with Sunderland .I believe he will try to play well and put himself in the shop window for a move to a higher ranked team. There surely must be another EPL team who would want a guy like Reyna.
I feel bad for the guy. All the work he's put into his career and now he's in the first division. As injury prone as he is, I don't see any clubs taking chances on him. I think he might be stuck down there.
It wont be too bad if Sunderland play well and make an immiediate return to the top division. I believe that they have a reasonable chance of promotion back to the EPL.If sunderland do badly then maybe Reyna will have to get out of there.
I sure hope it works out for him. He's a great player, been so all his career. He's got more savy than any American out there right now. But he's also very prone to injury - that's hurt him throughout. He was injured a lot in his twenties; I don't see it getting any better post-ACL and in his thirties. It might be time for Captain America to return to America. He could still dominate the MLS. There's a dearth of holding midfielders. Although, from what I gather, he'd probably retire before playing MLS ball. We'll see what happens in the first division. Although, I could possibly see Sunderland dumping him... but who would take the risk?
Since his transfer value wouldn't be very much, why would it be such a risk. The reward for a healthy Reyna Far outweighs the risk of him not performing well. If no one in England is willing to take him he is more than Welcome on any MLS team he wants to play for
That's the problem. His transfer value is likely low, making it less worthwhile to sell him. They're probably going to hang onto him now. I think that will ultimately be bad move for his career. A player of his standard shouldn't be playing first division. But then again, he's coming off an injury. I see a no win situation for Claudio. Maybe it is time for a return to the MLS, if only the seasons coincided.
He will probably be at Sunderland through the first half of the season, but when the transfer window opens back up depending on Sunderlands spot in the table Id expect him to go on the selling block. That way they show hes healthy to any potential buyers in the first half of the season, but if they think they will promote back they can keep him for the run.
The first division is rougher than the Premiereship. Reyna will most likely be hurt and miss part of the season again next year.
IF he has a good summer (either the Gold or Confed Cups) and plays well in the first half of the season, I could see him moving during the winter transfer window. However, if he gets injured or Sunderland is playing really well and promotion looks like a sure thing, I would expect him to stay with the team. Another thing that could raise his transfer value would be him retiring from international soccer. I don't know how that would impact the work permit, but I would think teams would be more interested in him if they knew he had no chance of getting injured in a match with a different team.
Sunderland is going to stay in Div1 for a long time because of their debt. They will need to get rid of some high wage earners.
I think Reyna will get a transfer. After all, this guy was the first American EVER to make the all-World Cup squad (Friedel should have made it too). Some EPL team has to be interested in him. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the teams moving up to EPL tried to pick up Reyna.
People has short memory.... he will be remembered as the Sunderland player who missed almost the entire season. Sunderland will either hold on to him for a higher transfer fees(which is not going to happen).... or hopefully does npot want to pay his salary..... and release or sell him cheap.
Actually this season might not be that bad for Reyna. Since he missed the worst part of the season, he may be one of the very few Sunderland players to come out of this season without having his reputation tarnished by their abysmal record.
I really think Leeds might be an option for Reyna. For one, you know their manager is a big fan and two, they are trying to cut wages and they can get a great player for cheap.
AFter all, he is stuck with Sunderland. That would be motivation enough for me to work hard in rehab and get out of there!
