    From the AP:
Sunderland will reduce its squad from 40 to 25 players next season, according to the Mirror. First-team players Kevin Phillips, Tore Andre Flo, Thomas Sorensen and Claudio Reyna will be among players sold to reduce debt, the paper said.

What will he command, being injured and all?

not a whole lot, unless he can somehow manage an amazingly quick comeback, play on the confed cup team in france and lead the team to a very, very good showing <like the finals> b/c he is not going to get back to his club to show another team his 'recovered' skills.

I dont think he will command all that much. As injury prone as he is, if I were running a club, I would not spend too much on him.

He has said many times that he plans on being with Sunderland next season. But it could just be him saying what he is suppose to say.

If he can prove he can still run and make intelligent passes then I'd figure he'd still be worth quite a bit. Obviously not nearly as much as pre-injury, but he should be able to find a job quick enough.

Good luck to him. Would Rangers take him back?

How about Newcastle.... After today's game, I think they need a younger version of Speed, plus they have cash and willingness to spend it.....

Ignore my previous post...For a moment of madness, i failed to see the huge rivalry between Sunderland and Newcastle... Gee, that was dumb!

    Go Home, Lad!

    You're all nuts.

The right place for Reyna is on the MetroStars as soon as possible. If it takes a personal services contract, then so be it.

Reyna is the premier American footballer. MLS and American Soccer need him on the number one market's team making an impact. He has been in Scottish, English and German top leagues. He is too old and too injury prone to be paid top money to play in Spain or Italy. It's time he came home, and made his bones and his place in MLS. Dollars to doughnuts that deal is being made right now.

    Next, Kasey Keller.

Reyna would never destroy his career by going to the Metro"stars"... At age 30, maybe he can go to Portugal, w/ his mother back ground, he can land FC Porto, Sporting, Benfica contract! Maybe Seria A, but hopefully to a team like Parma, or La Liga, I would love to see Reyna in Argentina, from his dads background...

claudio's a family man now, so his professional decisions are colored by that. of course, this might mean he's looking for as much cash as possible for the next couple years (obviously not mls), or he may well decide he's accomplished enough and it's time to settle back in the usa. either way, here's hoping his knee recovers.

With Sunderland offically being relegated today, its a safe bet that Reyna will be sold. It's just a matter of when and where. He first must prove he's healthy. I really think Reyna could move to Leeds. For one Peter Reid is obviously a huge fan of Reyna's and since Leeds doesn't have much cash, they can get Reyna pretty cheap. Blackburn may also be another option if Dunn is sold.

I wouldn't mind seeing Claudio playing for a side like Feynoord or a high level French team. Or maybe a Greek side like Panthanaikos or Olympiakos will look at him.

    You're funny.

Nothing worse can happen to an athlete than playing in the media center of the world, right? Endorsements, big bucks, security for your family, for life. Who wants that?

When you get back from the Planet Argentina, gives us call.

This has been brought up with myself and other Leeds supporters. Three big IFs though....
IF Peter Reid stays as manager (which i think he might)
IF Reyna can get his fitness back
IF We reallly want to spend around £1.5-2m (estimate price) on someone who is 30 years old.

I think it is a good idea if he can prove his fitness.

Was Reyna long enough in Sunderland to have that matter to anyone?

If Schmiechel can play for Man City,I think Reyna could go to Toon.

    Would Sir Bobby want him?Dunno.

    Leeds sound more plausible.

if you ask most sunderland fans what they think of Reyna, the first thing they will probably say is "he's hairy"

Most all of them think he is an amazing player. Him and Kevin Phillips are(were?) their best two players.

    Newcastle don't need any midfielders.....

Jenas, Speed, Dyer, Viana, Ambrose + several others that i can't think of right away

Leeds sounds fairly likely, and as someone said he is a family guy so he would probably want to stay in England/Scotland unless he was going to return to America (unlikely). He might be good for Spurs, but with Jamie Redknapp and Darren Anderton, the last thing Spurs need is an injury prone midfielder.

    Purojogo,

You are on the money. Neither Dyer nor Jenas have shown the ability to play as a holding midfielder, which is something Reyna can do.
