With Sunderland sacking all of its high-priced "talent", and with glaring absence of a holding midfielder when Speed isn't playing, why not? I'd think he would be a good fit. With the lineup on the field against ManUre, neither Dyer nor Jenas have proven to fill that role, and one might have to in the future, unless that is the role Ambrose would fill.

    Any thoughts?

I think it's a good idea. It would give Yanks another reason to support one of the world's greatest clubs. My concern is his knee injury he's recovering from and he's getting up there in age.

    Deja Reyna All Over Again

Didn't we hash out all of this Find Claudio A Home poop already?

No one can argue that in Europoe the guy is damaged goods. He is too old and too prone to injury in a market where there is very little money available for aquisitions.

Claudio's only viable solution is sign a personal services contract go to NYC, play for the MetroStars, and put the number one market on the map in MLS.

He knows Bradley, likes him, and knows he can not get half the money in Europe, or anywhere else, that he can in the States, especially with all the endorsements. Don't be surprised that he is close to cutting a deal with a major shoe name to get him back in the US.

You obviously know jack sh!t about Premiership salaries. Even as a max salary cap player, he'd earn way less than what he's making now.

    Are you that stupid?

Ever hear of a Personal Services Contract?
Do you know the kind of money athletes make from endorsements?

You can't be that dumb, so when you go back to your home planet, tell them we only wish to live in peace.

Personal services contract=violation of salary cap.

You can't be so dumb that you don't recognize that?

Besides, you tell me 1) why Reyna would make more in endorsement money than Landon Donovan and 2) how much Donovan makes in endorsements (hint: not as much as you think outside of his shoe contract).

  12. I have to agree with geordienation with regards to the wages...There is no chance of Reyna ever going to Newcastle...for one Bobby Robson is going to want a younger player...and many people think that Clarence Acuna can do the Gary Speed job. Even if Reyna did join Newcastle it doesn't necessarily mean that all us Sunderland fans will give him loads of stick...players such as Lee Clark, Len Shacketon, Brian Clough have all moved from one rival club to another in the North East of England

Only if it were a direct contract with the league. Remember that in 1998 or 1999, Nike gave Eddie Pope a multi-year endorsement contract worth roughly $5 million, with the stipulation that the contract was only good if he stayed in MLS.

For this reason alone, I believe that JOB would be a more likely candidate than Reyna. I'm not sure if JOB is on Robson's radar, but he has been spending a lot of time watching Eredivisie games this season. It'll be interesting to see who they end up picking up.
