Best player for Dortmund in a losing effort. And CP got in there. I guess we have to take what we can get.
Real nice game by Gio, and watching this, its really hard to see his lack of playing time preceeding it as anything other than an NBA styled DNP-Coaches decision. He looked absolutely fine and played quite well. Got knocked down a couple of times and no problems from what I could tell. Looked quite good, nothing spectacular, just usual incisive, cynical self. Really annoyed that the announcers don't recognize that Dortmund were completely hosed by the refs on that PK. Straight up ridiculous. They were handed a ticket to the quarters. Maybe they covered it better in the moment, but Chelsea getting that to begin with, and getting a 2nd bite at the apple on top? ---- that and them. Total horse bleep. On the other hand, maybe it gets Pulisic minutes in the quarters so at least there's something to get out of it. This Chelsea team quite obviously aint making it to the semi's unless they get a wondrous draw (like Benfica) and even then they probably wont advance. Will be so happy to see Pulisic out of there this summer. Anyway, after this, I expect to see Reyna get more minutes w/Dortmund, I can't see any reason he wasn't getting sub on's after watching this (and if people say training, well, how on earth is he deemed not worth it for games against lesser scrub sides, but suddenly essential against Chelsea? Bizarre).
Did quite well and one of the best three players for Dortmund today. They were not particularly good, though.
frankly Gio Tyler Wes CP All looked like a 5 out of 10 today … no exceptional performance by anyone today. next week is another chance for them all. None of them has hit the prime of their careers yet. just the reality of it.
CP was at worst a 6.5, and was probably a 7. But that’s a different thread, and opposes your narrative - sorry. BA and Wes were closer to average. We need to see a good game from Wes soon, I expect better. But hey, I’m stoked they got 3 points. I did not see Gio, so will take your word for it.
vs Stuttgart 4/15/2023 — not much of Gio, whose only contribution seems to be... a vital goal. He comes on at about 7 minutes into the video.
Bad/lazy defending by Gio on Stuttgart's second goal. Really bad (shocking) team defense by Dortmund on goal no. 3.
On the bench. The fact that he's scoring at a really good rate lately doesn't seem to make a difference.
