Any of you pundits or team folks have any insight as to Milton's progress? While not often mentioned, I feel Milton's abscence from the pitch has had a definite impact. Any comments? Mark
The "UNOFFICIAL" inside poop I've heard from some Honduran friends of mine is that he is shooting for a late August comeback. I would think that's a pretty optimistic expectation. A torn ACL is a mutha....
I saw him out at pre-game warmups in running shoes. He wasn't running but passed a ball once or twice and seemed to walk without a noticable limp. This offers no insight into his progress or rehab. Am I at 1000 posts yet?
Just found out today I tore my mutha, I mean ACL. Not nearly as bad as I thought I f'ed it up! Thought I tore a lot more than the ACL 6 months I can start to get back to playing sports. I'll be going through the same surgery and recovery as Reyes did!
A couple of weeks ago I saw Milton in the tunnel, and I asked him how he was doing. He said the knee was healing nicely, and I noticed as he walked away that he was hardly limping at all. Let's not rush it though. There's no point bringing him back before he's 100%.
Mike, I definitely don't want to rush him along, and risk re-injury. I was just wondering how he was. Mark
Owen, your almost at 1000, turn your last two numbers of your post count around and add that to your total and you've got it.
I think an August return is only worth it if it means something. If we have a shot at doing well in the playoffs and the such. I would rather have him out for the rest of the year and have him at full speed next year, then have him rush back, hurt it again and be out even longer.
Fortunately, the back line is performing well. So there's no reason to rush Reyes back. But the sooner he gets into training, the better. Maybe not full speed at first and maybe he needs to wear a different color shirt that tells the guys to stay 5 feet away, but August/September is the start of his 'comeback window' so maybe a couple of training matches, or Open Cup matches to start with. Imagine playoff time, when Ray takes out a striker to put in Reyes as the fourth defender, with Nelsen as the D-mid.
I'm pretty certain that Dyson, in one of his recent practice reports, said that there was a possibility that Milton could be back in August. He was well enough to do some light work individually.
My son tore his ACL over a year ago and I suspect that Reyes got the same surgery. They remove a tendon from your hamstring and use it to rebuild the ACL in your knee. You end up with a 2 1/2 inch scar on your leg and a couple of small punch holes on your knee. The surgery is much less invasive than knee surgery in the old days. Having said that, it takes time for the new tissue to attach at both ends. It is surgically attached but tissue has to grow to make it secure. Also, you lose a lot of leg strength due to the inactivity after surgery, and you lose range of motion. You have to make up for the loss of the tendon in you hammy as well as stretch out but not break the new ACL. My son was in phyiscal therapy for a month or two, but he's not a professional athlete. I would expect that Reyes is undergoing a more intensive rehab program. I hear it's possible to come back from an ACL tear in 6 months which would put Reyes' availability at the beginning of September at the earliest. Reinjuring yourself after the surgery is something you don't want to do. I think bringing Reyes back this season may be putting him at too much risk. He has to be rehababilitated and match fit. Maybe he can do this if DC makes the playoffs, but he'd be wise to take it slow so he doesn't have to go through this again.
It seems that most pro-athletes go with a cadaver ligament. (that's what I've got in my left knee, now) You only get three (or four) little scars, you're patella tendon is not damaged, and recovery is quicker. Pros come back much quicker than us hacks, due in part to their physical condition prior to the surgery, and they get to rehab on a full-time basis. Which is quite a bit much more than those of us who need to work it in around work and school. But I'm still in the "don't break him before he's fixed" camp.
