MLS roster waivers Isn't today (Nov. 4) the deadline? Has anyone heard anything? When will the league issue the list?
Was the date posted somewhere (like mlsnet.com)? Does this mean that there would be a waiver draft later this week? Also, didn't they have a rule last year about how teams were fined $5000 if they kept a player on their roster and then waived them at a later date prior to the season?
For Immediate Release Contact: Jurgen Mainka, Media Relations Monday, November 4, 2002 Revolution Places Three Players on Waivers Midfielder Shaker Asad, Forward Ian Fuller and Goalkeeper Juergen Sommer Waived by the Club in Year-End Transaction FOXBOROUGH, MA- The New England Revolution placed midfielder Shaker Asad, forward Ian Fuller and goalkeeper Juergen Sommer on waivers today. Asad, who was selected by the Revs on January 11, 2002, in Major League Soccer's Allocation and Dispersal Draft, started in one of the six games he played for the team this year. Fuller, 24, started in three of the 11 games he played for the franchise, recording three assists in his first year as an MLS player. The former Clemson forward was selected by New England in the second round (21st overall) in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft. Sommer, 33, started in goal in 12 games for the Revolution this season, posting a 2.39 goals against average with a 3-8-1 record. He was acquired by the Revs on March 14, 2000. All players who are placed on waivers will be available for other MLS teams to request their services in a waiver draft to take place the Wednesday, November 6. If a player is not claimed in that draft, MLS will decide whether to keep the player in the league pool or to release him, making him a free agent. No that $5000 fine was if you claimed a player, then cut him before training camp, or something like that. It prevents teams from taking a player even if they have no intent on using him. I think that happened with the Mutts when they took Francis Okaroh when Miami waived him a couple of years ago. Either that, or they had to dump his giant salary to make room for Loathesome Matthaus. No surprises there, really. DC waives Lassiter, Zambrano, Villegas and McGinty, does not renew option on Alavanja's contract. Anyone hear about any other teams?

Threads merged Moderators have been told to "clean up this site". I'll be looking to merge threads that seem to be redundant or similar. If you think I am going too far, let me know.
San Jose Earthquakes (MLS) - Earthquakes place M Scott Bower, F Luchi Gonzalez and D Zak Ibsen on waivers. I'd take Gonazalez. He's been in the league one year, was a legitamte scorer in college, can't cost much and has to be better than Ian Fuller was. DC United - Washington Post is reporting that Jaime Moreno (age 29) is being shopped around as they have interest in a young Argentine midfielder/forward who trained with Boca Juniors. I don't think Moreno has recovered from his knee surgery.
What are the consequences of picking up someone off waivers at this time? Can we pick someone up to try them out and then waive/trade them later if we are not impressed?
Also what is the significance of the deadline? WHat is to prevent teams from waiting to see who they get in the Superdraft/allocation/discoveries, then cutting players accordingly?
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Wonder what's the scoop on him, he was a top prospect in the last draft? Too small?
MLS/Revs roster waivers (merged) Can you say J. Torres? He won the award as the top college player and never made it in MLS. Where are the reports from the other 7 teams? Can it be that only three teams waived players???
MLS/Revs roster waivers (merged) I saw in another thread that Dallas waived P. Olivares. If so, I think that's it: four teams.
MLS/Revs roster waivers (merged) I just went through the other team boards and see evidence that other teams have waivers in the mill b ut haven't made anouncements yet. Could that be true? Ah yes, this is MLS The metro board suggests that they will be waiving a few and opine that Teddy C might be on the block. Would we want to take him back?
Re: MLS/Revs roster waivers (merged) Johnny Torres = 5'8" 140lbs Luchi Gonzalez = 5'8" 156lbs. Same height, more meat.
MLS/Revs roster waivers (merged) http://www.metrostars.com/metronews/submissions/2002/november/11052002v1.htm Metro waived Chrono and four others....
I'd say Chrono's day is done unless some other team can use him. Great guy, great Rev, but some times you just have to let it go... Kind of puts a new footnote in any post mortem evaluation of "The Trade", doesn't it?
The Gals waived Craig Waibel, who I think might be worth a look as a 5th/6th defender who's pretty good in the air. He's the first player I've seen waived that's interesting to me. AND he played with Joey Franchino at Washington, I believe.
And Rooney is still on the roster because... ? Can't complain with Asad and Fuller, they didn't show much this year. Wouldn't have minded tossing Downing as well and taking a chance on a different developmental player in the draft. I haven't seen much growth out of Nick, he doesnt' appear to have the physical tools. Sommer... eh, I would've liked to see him stick around if he could negotiate down to a lower salary (which he probably would have to, he doesn't have much bargaining power). I think his guidance was a big reason for Adin Brown's resurgance, and I would've loved to see that continue. Juergen is really the first successful veteran Brown has been behind in MLS and I think it paid off. While Sommer was awful at some points last year, I would've liked to hang onto him until the Superdraft... he's certainly not a great backup, but who's to say we will be able to sign someone who is? Hopefully we've got an eye on Cassar.
Revs Waive 3 http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/news/press_releases/fullStory_210.asp Revs waive Ian Fuller, Shaker Asad, and Juergen Sommer.
Personal preference is Titus over Waibel, but I hope we can do better than both. Musa Shannon is intriguing. I think he could be a sleeper if someone picks him up and he goes through the preseason instead of having to make an impact in one month.
Who can forget Musa's hat trick against The Revs a few years back? Still one of my favorite pre-Twellman Revs' games. The guy I'd like to see the Revs pick up is Saavedra. I'm surprised that he was waived by Chicago. IIRC he was supposed to have been playing quite well for Milwaukee in the A-league. He might be someone to take a chance on. Like a younger Asad with more potential...
