Extra Kool-Aid for everyone! It will be tough to spin our ways out of this one.

Heaps is done! He's getting beat all the time now

    DC was better. They won.
    Really doesn't take much 'splainin.

The thing that might require explanation is why DC is stronger than they were at this time last year (Emilio/Fred), while the Revs are technically weaker (- Dempsey).

If ever there was a game that showed the Revs need help it was this one. I was so sick of watchin the long ball into Twellman. This could be soo much better but the powers to be chose not to make it so. Heaps is bad. I am sick of watching John and his slides everywhere. Khano and his pathetic attempts at everything. As I have said for the past 7 years since I started posting. This team will not win MLS cup with Heaps starting. End of rant...GO PATS!!!!

    Highlights are up at MLSnet.com

The replays clearly show that 2 players kept Emilio onside on his 1st goal. Nicol will feel quite silly for getting tossed over that one.

To answer your question: "Why is DC stronger at this time of the season than they were last year?"

The Simple Answer is Emilio/Fred/Burch. The real answer is Soehn. This was the 22nd different starting lineup he's used in 24 matches. Players have had A LOT more rest, younger players have been given the chance to contribute, leading to the revelation that is Burch at LB and McTavish at CB. It's also given Simms his chance to shine, which he has, in supplanting Brian Carroll at DM. Playing Olsen on the wing, when everyone (including me) didn't think he had the wheels to make that change at this point in his injury-riddled career, and successfully transitioning Fred to the wing.

Good match all-around, we'll see you in the Playoffs/ECF.

Remember, saying that we lost means we're jubilant that we lost. Apparently that's what happens when we mention facts around here. Facts don't matter as much as "We're the best team in MLS."

And also remember ... DC should have been not so confident playing us. Because we've been so good against them the last few years.

    Facts suck don't they.

There was one team that should have been dead tired today. After watching that game ... do you know which one it was?

Hey, but we're now in second place! Luckily the Shield is just hypothetical.

I'll be curious to see what Nicol's reason was, but I don't think he was upset about the offside call.

For everything you said, you're right. But the other reason they're stronger is because unlike the Revs ... they realized they had problems at certain positions, and they tried to upgrade those positions. Unfortunately the Revs apparently don't think they need to upgrade. All those trophies we've got in our case prove their point.

But we're in second place. Remember, it's more important to use that nonsensical stuff. But don't say anything bad, otherwise you're jubilant that we lost.

We most likely just lost the Shield. We're now five points behind, for what it matters.

Did Dorman even play tonight? We have only one way of getting the ball up top. Through the wings. And depending on if Khano is actually having a good game, I'm saying both "wings." There's no central midfielder on this team that can actually put the ball in a dangerous position from the middle of the field.

But fortunately for us, we don't need anyone, which is a good thing because we've got no money and no roster space.

NO! WE ARE THE BEST TEAM IN MLS!!!

Pay no attention to things like Overall Record, Record since the All-Star Break, Record since the Start of May, Goal Differential, Goals Against Average, Goals Scored, or Head-to-Head.

Just say keep saying we're the best team in MLS, and it'll happen. We don't need better players. It's all about the power of positive thought. That's what's going to carry us to an MLS Cup!

Hypothetical in the sense that it physically exists, actually matters (CONCACAF Cup entry) and currently resides in our trophy case. If United manages to win again this year, it'd be the first time anyone repeated as Supporter's Shield Champs. Anyone with an IQ over 80 should be able to realize that earning the best record in the league and the shield shows who the strongest team in the league is. The Cup has more "shine" but it was definitely tainted in 2005.

You're so wrong. As people keep trying to tell me here, the Revs are a better team than DC.

Facts continue to bite them in the ass.

That's sort of a trap. When a coach like this isn't doing well, hes dumb because he's "tinkering too much" (ie: Ranieri, Rafa). But when he is doing well, he's a genius for keeping his lineup fresh and competitive.

Unfortunately, we simply don't have the depth to do this. Let's face it, we only have one extra first team quality player at defense, outside mid and forward (none at center mid). Realistically, SN only has 14 first team caliber players to choose from. And that's counting Heaps as first team caliber.

Alec ... Mike's right, you missed my point. The "hypothetical" comment came from one of our fans.

It's hard to imagine the Revs winning anything (MLS Cup, Supporter's Shield, Open Cup) the way they played today - they're just not championship caliber.

Nicol also needs to learn to keep his cool. There was no reason for him to get himself ejected from this game. He should save his ranting and raving for the locker room.

What bothers me is the sense we're going through this season with one hand tied behind our back. We have open roster spots and cap money. We need someone who can help now. Not going to happen.

Could you imagine the Patriots going into the season with less than a full roster?

The Open Cup is there for the taking. It's a one-off. I fully expect this team to take it.
MLS Cup playoffs is another matter.

Dempsey aside, you can't say the Revs are much worse then they were last year. However, today tells us why "not much worse" is not good enough. As much as I hate to say it, DC looked more fluid than we were, more multi-dimensional, and all this while they were "tired". While DC has some defensive weaknesses, they seemed to have solved the worst of them (Erpen).

It shouldn't escape notice that DC's 3 subs (Boswell, Carroll and Olsen) are or have been starters recently.

There will be a tendency to blame the defenders for the loss - it's a half truth at best. It was a team loss. My own particular whipping boy is Dorman, whose form has fallen off so far in the last two months, that you wonder if he is playing injured. Our midfield had no answer to their midfield, so it should come as no surprise that our defense looked shaky.

I actually feel pretty confident that you guys will clobber Dallas and finally get a well-deserved trophy after all the near misses. Good luck!

A fair assessment, but it should be mentioned that having enviable depth enables a coach to experiment a little bit more with the lineups. The Revs field essentially the same 10/11 of the lineup for almost every match for a reason.

So Soehn has done a good job. But he should be grateful that the front office has afforded him the luxury of having enough good players to be able to make adjustments.

The MLS is starting to look like a real league in that it takes a combination of superior players, coaches, and front office staff to make a good franchise run. In past seasons, this wasn't always the case. In this regard, the Revolution have some catching up to, and unfortunately the clock is ticking on the team's core group of players (Ralston, Joseph, Noonan, Twellman, tec.).

There's just no excuse for the competitive disadvantage this organization has actively pursued. None.
