So, so, so ready to see some Revs soccer. To quote Tom Hanks from the movie "That Thing You Do", boys, it's very important that you don't stink today: Revos: [LINEUP-3-5-2]Killer, Nyassi, Perovic, Tierney, Joseph, Phelan (!!!), Boggs, Gibbs, Osei, Alston, REIS[/LINEUP-3-5-2] BestBuy FC: [LINEUP-4-4-2]Old Crap, Young Crap, Unknown Crap, Thuggy Crap, Bosnian Crap, Guatemalan Crap, Polish Crap, Caveman Crap, Brown Crap, Crappy Crap, Goalkeeper Crap[/LINEUP-4-4-2] Pretty crappy lineup, if you ask me. Here's hoping we're slightly less crappy tonight.
FWIW, the Revs lineup here comes from MLSSSSoccer.com. Interesting that they've got us down in a 3-5-2 with Nyassi up front.
...aaaaand that'll teach me to trust MLSSSSSoccer.com. Looks like Perovic is starting at forward along side Killer.
Swear to God, Conde's got compromising pictures of every referee in MLS. That's the only explanation. EDIT: Conde trips Killer as he goes for a Nyassi cross. No call.
Same old story for Revs: allowing too much space on defense. Shalrie tried to close on him, he faked Shalrie and had an uncontested shot.
You know what sticks out about the Revs after watching a bit of World Cup over the past few weeks? Our offense is tremendously predictable. Even Shalrie... who doesn't give the ball away, isn't exactly Valderrama in terms of doing a bit of the unexpected. Having watched every game this year, I know where the ball is going a second or two before it's played. And if I know where it's going, you can bet the defenders know as well.
My wife suggested a nickname for Dube: Sadim. Why? He's the opposite of Midas. Every time he touches the ball the play turns to crap.
Pretty decent performance by the Revs honestly. This is as good as it's going to get with this team. Sadly that means home losses to mediocre opposition. C'est la vie with the Revs in 2010.
The Revs created far more than enough chances to score two or three goals but just can't seem to finish . IMO they deserved at least a point tonight or even the full three but that player who will finish more than half his chances isn't on the current roster and that going to make it hard for this roster to even make the playoffs much less make any noise. A few positive from tonights play: ---the team played like a team that wanted to win. Maybe we'll see something added that can help when the window opens but at this point I think it's going to be too little too late. ---this years rookie class all look like they all have what it takes to play in MLS
---this years rookie class all look like they all have what it takes to play in MLS[/QUOTE] the new guy Griffiths seems like he could be a useful player in the middle
There were some positives tonight, Perovic looked good and I really liked teh 3-5-2 at the end. Osei looked better than he has in quite some time. But: The Fire actually won 2-0 because that Nyassi save off the line seemed well into the goal (ask Frank Lampard). Mr. Schilwaski needs to finish a couple of those chances...a free header from 8 yards needs to find the net. Both SJ and Reis looked bad on the goal.
Blow. It. Up. Wholesale changes should be made to this franchise ASAP. Nicol out, trade the vets, etc. Write off the season, build for 2011.
Finishing was non existant, the guys still seemed like their hearts weren't in it. I don't think things got worked out right during the break... oh well...
If a player of Twellman's finishing prowess was on the field, we'd have probably walked away with a victory tonight. The first half was timid from both sides but the Revs REALLY pressed in the second half. Unfortunately, we relied on a "veteran" supplemental draft pick and a rookie to score. I don't want to see this type of performance every week, but it's certainly an improvement over what we were seeing before the break.
I agree. The effort was there last night. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough talent. I'm not seeing it. Shilawski (even making allowances for our pathetic service) is Dube - lots of hard work with minimal results. Boggs would be a fine reserve, but is not a MLS starter. Sinovic seems to have lost his place to Tierney. Griffiths - too early to tell. And is it just me, or is Kevin Alston so far off his 2009 form that he looks like a different player?
Lots of wasted opportunities last night. The Fire was not that impressive defensively. Revs broke them down a few times in the attacking third only to pass to noone, shoot wide, cross nowhere or lose the ball on the dribble. This team scares nobody in MLS. They need to make a move. They need to be in contact with people now, make their choice, negotiate and sign so that they can be here asap instead of waiting until the 15th to go out shopping. They need to drop EJ and make a big move or two or three.
Agreed. If you drop EJ 240k + Videira 40k and you've got almost 300k of wiggle room to sign someone who contributes more than a warm spot on the dressing room table or the bench. EJ is back injured though right (surprise) so we can't cut him til he's healthy?
