it's what they were sayin at the stadium and there were already a bunch of people buying tix on the way out so it better be da truth!
I am really trying hard to grasp any rational explanation for changing the game from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon. There are some of us- who have been fairly loyal with both support and attending matches. Now that we have a team making it to the semi-final round- the powers that be CHANGE the match from the league published playoff schedule-Did anyone ever stop to think that maybe JUST MAYBE their loyal fans MAY HAVE ACTUALLY ADJUSTED OR PLANNED THEIR SCHEDULE AROUND THE PLAYOFF SCHEDULE- this is the HEIGHT OF INCONSIDERATION for me as a season ticket holder and fan- to me it is makes this league look very MICKEY F*%$-IN MOUSE. Jimmy and I may or not be there on Sunday now that we have to try and re-arrange our weekend because of this STUPID CHANGE- very very bush league- Jon
I don't think it was ever completely official as Saturday. The situation is kinda like a catch-22 though, play sunday: team gets another days rest, may be smaller crowd, play sat: bigger crowd, 1 day less rest. I'm still gonna be there no matter what happens.
section 143 I was one of the bunch of people who bought tickets (next game on sunday and the MLS cup). They had three ticket windows open. While I was in line there was an angry fan shouting something at the window. A guy with RevArmy shirt was going nuts because they told him section 143 was sold out. After a little commotion a management-looking guy opened a seperate window and sold RevArmy guy and anyone who wished to buy section143 tickets. This "sold out" excuse has been persistant throughout playoff games so far. Everytime they say it's sold out and everytime it is half empry. Does the management think of their core fans as hooligans that they want as little as possible?
Go look at the Official Budwieser MLS Playoff Schedule on the MLS Official Site- it STILL says Saturday October 5th?? Jon
Re: section 143 Not really, I think that they're just paranoid some family will claim they want tickets for the section without knowing about that 'icky' standing and chanting deal. You gotta tell them you actually know what goes on in the section...they must really suck at telling hard core from the rest of the crew though.
this is what i was told by a person handing out the "buy your tix now" flyers. "the match was moved to sunday to accomodate logistical problems that would have been incurred by having both the revs matches and spooky world going on at the same time" my god. the mls put the schedule out weeks ago. this place knew the possibility existed for a saturday night game....yet they still posted the saturday date on the center circle section. yeah, the lines of communication.....wide open over there in the halls of kraft sports. p.s. i really don't mind the extra day of rest. but a family event was moved to accomodate a sat game.
Jon, looks like they're slowly updating everything at the MLS site. In the summary for tonight's game it says "New England will move on to play the Columbus Crew in the 2002 MLS Cup Playoffs semifinals, starting this Sunday, October 6 with Game 1 in Gillette Stadium at 4:00 p.m. (ET). The Revolution will own home-field advantage in the semifinal series with Game 2 at Columbus Crew Stadium on Wednesday, October 9 at 7:30 p.m. (ET). A third game, if necessary would be played Saturday, October 12 at Gillette Stadium at 4:00 p.m. (ET)." Lucky for me, no plans this weekend!
You aren't the only one. I went to considerable lengths to clear out Saturday night this weekend, and I simply can't make it on Sunday. Can we have a raffle where the winner gets to strangle whoever came up with this idea? And to add insult to injury, as of 5 minutes ago mlsnet.com still lists BOTH semi-final game 1s as Saturday night, as did the program for tonight's game. Now I'm really glad I decided to use the pay-as-you-go method. I can't imagine how much more angry I'd be if I had just been charged $90 for tickets I can't even use.
It's ludicrus the fact that they switched it I gotta try and get work off now. They just take advantage of the fact we have loyal fans.
It's not that uncommon. Years ago when I had Celtics season tickets ( back when they played basketball, not in your face slam ball ) the Celts regularly made it to the playoffs and the schedule was regularly changed to accommodate TV, garden events, etc. I'm not saying it's OK, but it certainly isn't unprecedented. In either case, I'm off to Spokane, WA for four days starting Saturday, so I miss them either way.
I understand the frustration about moving the date, but weather-wise it may turn out to be a good thing. Reports last night suggested that we'll be getting swamped from the aftermath of Hurricane Lilli on Saturday, but Sunday should be sunny and in the 60s. Let's hope they are correct for this at least.
Well, I spent a number of hours arranging my schedule to travel Sunday AM because the date was to be Sat PM. I can't change because I have a business appointment first thing Mon AM. Had I known two weeks ago I could have shifted things, now I can't. Thanks! JIM DOW
Reports last night suggested that we'll be getting swamped from the aftermath of Hurricane Lilli on Saturday... Dude, we always win when it's raining ;-) Besides, the atmopshere is always better at night, and unfortunately now we're playing on a day when most of the region's sports attention will be fixed to the Patriots vs. Dolphins match-up. Hey, I'm just happy we made it through to the next round, although I would rather have had the game on Saturday night. The Magpie
Now my question: Are the Pats and Porpoises kick off at the same time as the Revs and Crew? Knowing the monkey's heed Garber, it wouldn't surprise me.
No. Pats - Dolphins at 1:00pm Revs - Crew at 4:00pm Another brilliant move by the Krafts which may cause yet another sub 10,000 attendance at a playoff game. Andy
I think the Pats game is at 1 but I'm sure some casuals will stay hame and watch that as opposed to coming out to the stadium. It's erally a boneheaded move by MLS to switch the schedule like that. I can't think of any logical explination for that. Did anyone see the postgame interview with Twellman? He said, "Bring on Saturday" and Chapman said, "It's actually Sunday now" and Twellman looked a bit confused. I sympathize with revs fans who got screwed by the date change, I gotta manipulate my work schedule to be able to catch the game myself.
They may have also changed the game to Sunday afternoon to try to avoid another 6000+ crowd, which is pretty shameful, even for weeknights. I think they'd get a better crowd on Sunday afternoon than on a Saturday night. I'm hosed either way because I have unchangeable plans for the next 2 Saturday nights and this Sunday afternoon as well. Although I did attend both quarterfinal matches, MLS Cup will unfortunately be the only other playoff game I can attend. Hey, what can I say. Keeping dates open for Revs playoff matches in the Fall hasn't exactly been something I've needed to do over the last 7 years. Ah well, I'll tape the games and watch 'em in the wee hours......
Gee, I was kind of worried about the ability of the Revs to cover the Crew on the wings for 90 minutes after only three days rest. Silly me. Instead of rejoicing when they announced that tired legs would get another night's sleep, I should have been screaming at the Kraft conspiracy to personally harass all Revs fans into cancelling their support of the team. I'll try to remember next time.
Dontcha think they might put the Pats on the big screen and invite fans in extra early? Or is this beyond the imagination of Revs/Pats management?
Last year the Jamaica game was on a Sunday afternoon. We came early and made it on on time but I heard that the lines to get in got really long. The official explanation was that about half of the stadium workers called in sick to watch the Pats on tv. Get there early
You noticed Taylor's reaction during that interview ? It was a surprise even for the players. Taylor was taken aback because he had some plans for Sunday afternoon too that included celebrating the Revs first ever semifinal win the night before. Those plans will just have to wait until Monday ! (knock on wood 3 times)
Revolution fans have to step up. The team is a couple of steps away from playing for the MLS Cup AT HOME. Sunday afternoon has to be at least 15K. Good luck and enjoy!
