I heard a rumor that the Revs are trying out a tall defender from Easter Island named Freddie Aku. Thor, any truth to this?
Considering the needs in midfield I'd think we'd need look for someone with greater mobility. Guy's got size, but he runs like his legs are made of stone or something... The Magpie
Isn't he the son of the guy who owned that restaurant in Fresh Pond ? I guess the dad must have control of the Polynesian food concessions at Gillette or something.
Dug up a player profile... Photo by: Kei Maha Ariki, Easter Island Sports Images. "Freddy" Aku is pictured 2nd from the left. Full Name: Moai Ahu "Freddy" Aku Tongariki Birthplace: Mataveri, Easter Island Age: 602 years old. Nationality: Chile Height: 23 feet Weight: 13.9 Tons Position: Center Defender/Midfielder Curent club: unattached Previous club(s): Blind Prophets (Chile), Easter Island Wanderers (Chile), Moai United (Chile), Manchester United Reserves (England) "Freddy" Aku is now entering his 13th professional season, having spent the bulk of his career playing for lower division sides in Chile, yet also having played briefly in the Reserve squad for Manchester United in the early 1990's. His last club, Blind Prophets, saw Aku turn out for over 200 appearances. However, in a Prophets career spoilt by injury Sam has fluctuated between a clearly struggling-almost player, and perhaps the best central midfielder outside of the top Chilean Leagues. It is without doubt that Aku was the single largest influence in the Prophets progression to the G.E.I Trophy final last year, with two spectacular goals in the semi finals against cross island rival and former club Wanderers, only to be cruelly denied by a moment of idiocy in a 'nothing match', by being sent-off for a stone-high challenge two minutes from the end. If there is a major flaw in Aku's game then it is perhaps his over-exuberance in the tackle and tepid pace. When he falls down, he tends to stay down, and has a habit of taking other players within him. However, Aku is available on a free transfer and could be picked up by the Revs as a discovery option. "Me kick better ball than Grimandi," Aku told local reporters at Revs camp in Brazil. "But me no move no quick: bit old, legs feel like stone..." Just FYI The Magpie
The return of Carlos Cementshoes? Naaah, I'm thinking more along the lines of Kris "Stumpy" Keldermann ;-). The Magpie
So now the Revs get a deal on cement and chinese food Now that is a smart business plan Seriously though - how would signing this kid work ? I mean honestly he could not possibly be a discovery player ? Then again this is MLS
For those interested Sports Illustrated has an article on Freddy in this weeks issue 3 pages with some good pictures
Freddie Aku's in Sports Illustrated? Wow... I mean, they've had Landon Donovan and Clint Mathis on separate covers... ... what's next? I might faint. The Magpie
why doesn't the Chilean Futbol Association have a wrist scan performed?? from what i've heard Easter Islanders rarely have accurate birth certificates and their youth teams regularly feature overage players.
Birth certificate Talking about Birth Certificate, the REVs should have checked on Sandro Hiroshi formerly of São Paulo FC and recently released by Flamengo... He knows all about funny birth certificates and multiple passports...
