http://www.boston.com/business/arti...0m_patriot_place_complex_and_a_legacy/?page=1 Am I the only person that is infuriated by this? It's not the first I've heard of it, but still, building a strip mall is more important to him than getting the Revs their own stadium. Also, that's the land that would have been perfect for the SSS, I always envisioned somewhat of a baby-stadium right next to Gillette.
It's nothing personal, just business, so you shouldn't take it personally. Besides, as long as the Krafts have an approximately 69,000 seat stadium, we're never going to get a SSS; that's the reality. The Magpie
Yeah I know, given the Revs' current level of popularity, it dosent make sense. I really wish Kraft would just sell the team though, it's obvious, to me at least, that he could give a rat's ass about the Revs, and I bet if we asked him right now what happened in the game last night, not only would he not know the score, he would be unaware that they played. People always talk about how he showed up at that MLS Cup once, to me thats an insult. He just shows up when there is glory to be had, but couldnt care less for the rest of the season. I bet if you walked up to him right now and asked him to name players on the Revolution, he might be able to name 5, at the most. I know the Revolution have been one of the most stable clubs in MLS since 96 really, but I wish MLS HQ, once AEG has offed all it's additional teams and stuff, would look at how Kraft dosent care about the Revs, or soccer, and push to get an owner that does in here.
If I'm going to pain myself into being optimistic - having Patriot Place built greatly increases the likelihood of getting more city-dwellers to Foxboro. Which is good for, well, me I guess.
Another huge factor/aspect is that eventually, if the demand is there for public transportation to the new complex, trains might actually run daily/regularly including for Revs games.
You know, I kept thinking that. But almost every time I talk to someone from the Revs now, they bring up an SSS on their own. I'm not sure what they're hearing on the inside ... but I like it.
I hope Patriot Place makes Mr. Kraft a gazillion dollars. Then a little-bitty $80 million SSS will seem pretty cheap & easy to build.
A part of me was surprised with Patriot Place especially with the talk of searching for a site for the SSS. Clearly this just fits Krafts business plan. A stadium in Boston would be the best possible situation for the Revs but that may just be too optimistic. Either way i think Gillette still fits the Revolution very well although real grass would be nice.
The Revs aren't even mentioned in the entire Article. There are references to: "football games and stadium events" Nothing not one mention of the Revs. At least in the Graphic on page B7 in the Globe they show the Revs Practice Field. That was nice. Can't wait to go to the Cinema de Lux, what is it gonna be a Brattle Theatre except Megasized?
ANy chance the mall could increase the odds of getting a SSS nearby because it would bring more potential shoppers to the mall, thus making the mall more valuable? Also, Magpie is that Sgt. Apone in your avatar? One of my favorite obscure film characters ever.
You got it. BTW, I was pretty pissed the Revs weren't mentioned in the Krafts article as well... it's as if they don't exist. Well, it's still hard to believe: I'm a bit jaded after the years of lip service on this and other concerns. The Magpie
After reading the article and looking at a few of the links, it becomes clear to me that the Krafts spent more money on the video tour of THE HALL @ Patriots Place than they do on Revs publicity. In a related note, does the Christmas Tree Shop sell navy blue flags....???
1.) There is not a team in the league that has an owner whose primary business venture is the team. 2.) This Patriots Place project will only increase the value of the Revs for the Krafts because of the gameday traffic that will spend money there. 3.) If they sold the Revs, the team would generate bigger losses for the new owner because they would have to pay rent. The team would then likely move. There's several things wrong with how Kraft Soccer is structured. However, that has more to do with who they hire to run the soccer side of the business. The Krafts still bankroll an MLS team in our area. If it wasn't for them, there wouldn't be a team here.
The voice of reason rings out again. All very good points, especially the last one. It's sad that the status quo is the way we have to go for now, but at least we have a team.
I can't wait for the tiny Revolution shelf in the gigantic Patriots Museum(if the Revs are even in it at all).
Seriously, would you even expect anything in there, and would you be mad if there wasn't. I sure wouldn't be. It's not Revolution Museum, its the Patriots Museum. Pats have a lot more history on us, dating back to playing in Fenway Park. They deserve it. Frankly I'd be annoyed even as a Revs fan to see Revs stuff in a Pats museum.
seriously, when the revs get their own place (in the future, distant or not so, i dunno), theyll prolly have a museum of soccer in new england, featuring the revs obviously, but also having stuff dating back to the beginnings of the sport here.
It already exists... sort of. http://www.neshof.org/blog/ Although as far as I know, it's not an actual physical "museum" since they have yet to set up shop in a building somewhere. Most of their stuff is stored in somebody's attic...
Whatever happened to the rumour going around about having an SSS built on the waterfront in Boston? Or was it just that, a rumour? Steve
