http://boston.com/dailyglobe2/136/sports/WEEI_seeking_co_host_pay_cuts+.shtml If the name "Meterparel" looks familiar to you, it should. Andy
This has been mentioned on the Revs board earlier this year, but Meterparel has got to be the absolute worst combination of idiocy, lack of respect for the listeners and the game, and sheer unprofessionalism. I had the misfortune of listening to part of the Revs first game in Chicago and there were 2-3 minute streches where you had no idea whatsoever what was going on because Meter was blithering on about a steak house in Naperville where they ate, asking the analyst (Brown U coach) Mike Noonan about the upcoming season, and who knows what else--all while the game is going on. Bad enough when the TV guys do this, but at least you can see what's going on. In the Dallas game 2 weeks later he made Ted Kennedy drinking jokes (with ice cracking sound effects), talked about movies, rap music and basically anything other than the game. The guy ought to be taken outside and shot, or at the very least, fired. Those of you who aren't in Boston don't know this, but those idiots Dennis and Callahan work for the same station, and Meterparel is often the foil for their sophomoric "wit" on their show. I can't imagine the station manager would be happy with the idea of essentially sabotaging a team mate's show. You might expect them to do this for other stations, but not your own... Tom
How low can the Revolution organisation's credibility sink? Right now, it is difficult to tell if there is any left. This is shameful! Not that they did a broadcast from a TV monitor elsewhere, as the European Champions League games on ESPN are done, but because they attempted to pass it off as the real thing. Meterparel isn't too popular on the Revos board for a variety of reason, mostly that he doesn't know the game and apparently doesn't care to, either. But the roots to this sink much deeper than him. Things like this wouldn't happen unless the organisation allowed them to happen. This is the same organisation that sees nothing wrong with having its public relations director doing the television analysis, putting him into a no-win situation where he will never be allowed or able to provided honest analysts because of his dual roles. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/show...?threadid=47044 Then they are too cheap to send a broadcast team on the road (better not to even bother than have a dishonest delayed debacle), and allow for a dishonest product to be foisted on any unsuspecting fans that are listening. It begs the question: what is next? Maybe the Gillette Stadium scoreboard operator can reverse the scores of games when the truth doesn't suit the home team? This organisation continues to disrespect the intelligence of its own fans. This is just the latest example.
Not that i don't agree with some of what you say, but having people stay home and do commentary isn't as far-fetched as you would think. Hell, a some countries did it for the World Cup. Still, they are a-holes if they tried to pretend they were there.
On the other hand, while many other MLS teams can't even get a station to broadcast their games, the Revs are on a major station. Of course, the only reason they're on WEEI is because Kraft forces them to take the Revs as part of their Patriots package. It's not like there are sponsors getting in line to buy time for a product with a tiny listenership. Plus it was a tape delay so I can see why they wouldn't send a broadcast team on the road. Stuff like this happens with low budget operations. At the same time, Meterparel should have a little bit of common sense when it comes to trying to put one over on the listeners. Talk about lack of professionalism! All he does by pulling a stunt like this is further erode his already thin credibility. And this could hurt him as his career moves along, though he may already have the best job he's ever going to get on air.
The Revs are part of the Patriots Monday package, not the game broadcasts. It includes exclusive interviews with Belichick and players. 1510 used to have it, along with the Revs until last year. WEEI then outbid them and got the rights to Patriots Monday, which as was said earlier comes with the Revs radio broadcasts.
