Great job by FDA on taking ESPN to task for their continuing anti-soccer bias:

"ESPN retains the US rights to the Champions League but will screen only the Inter-Milan semifinal today (on ESPN2). ESPN has programmed the Juventus-Real Madrid match throughout the world, but in the US it will show a taped auto race.

This is a programming decision that seriously affects the credibility of the network. Not only is ESPN neglecting to show the deciding game of the most important soccer tournament of the year, it has also discouraged or prevented a secondary broadcaster from acquiring the one-time rights to what could be the world's most-watched sporting event of the year."

Finally an opinion from FDA not obfuscated by excessive verbiage or by his tangential thought processes. We're proud of your progress Frank!

I read that whole article with the thought "This is FDA?" running through my head. It was both well written and focused on the Revs. Hopefully we'll see more of that in the future.

If you can watch it, TV info for today's Inter-Milan semifinal game:

    Tue May 13 02:30PM Eastern
Length: 2 hr 30 min LIVE
    ESPN2 (US)
UEFA Champions League - Semifinal - 2nd Leg
Inter Milan (Italy) vs AC Milan (Italy)

The other semi between '03 Italian champs Juventus and Real Madrid, as FDA pointed out, has been deemed unimportant to American sports fans.

I'm amazed that no one has mentioned the Portugal-USA match being scrapped. This could have been one hell of a double header and I was really psyched about it. Now it's off because of Beer Sign Boards and TV Rights ? SHAME !

    Chapman nets 400th win
    by HeraldNews.com

Doug is taking a temporary leave of absence from soccer, but his success as a tennis coach continues.

    With a won-lost of 400-119, that's almost a 4-1 winning ratio... not bad.

Also mentioned in the Boston Herald here

You might want to re-read what's been written - it probably won't happen on June 5, though.

This one isn't ready to be embalmed yet, however the vitals aren't quite making all the blips necessary to indicate a sign of life.

My guess is that it'll happen, but on another date down the road. For one thing, the Taca, Portuguese Cup, is happening just days after June 5th and a lot of the talent is committed to playing for their respective clubs [In a non-friendly, it's club over country].

More importantly, congratulations Dapper Doug, the Harlem Globetrotters of the tennis world.

Beer companies! Why can't they just get along?
This Bud's for you! Or is it, this Sagres is for you?

Why can't we get coaches like that?

I'm a bit puzzled by JMM's statement about still wanting to play for the USMNT. I thought (and perhaps I heard it wrong) that he'd retired from international play in Korea. As I recall the story, he was injured (and wouldn't be able to play any more whether the USA advanced past the quarters or not) and indicated that he was retiring. Granted, none of this was a direct quote from JMM. But the Martins story and JMM's comments sure make it seem that the reports out of Korea were way off-base.
