Seven Theses - A View From The Fort by Jim Dow Revolution's road trip not environmentally friendly by Frank Dell'Apa "The Boston University men's soccer team will scrimmage with the Revolution April 5 at Nickerson Field at 3 p.m. The scrimmage is open to the public." So, this is why they changed the Midnight Riders' Meet the Coach to 10am. Amazing scheduling - The Revs must not want to watch the season opener between LA and the Crew live, and don't think we might want to either...?
Well said, Jim Dow. It reminded me of the fan resolutions written by Paul Oliu last week on MLSNet.com. For those that haven't seen it, here's the link: http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/oped0314oliu.html
Jim Dow's piece is quite tasty, indeed. FDA's story is well worth reading, too, particularly for the wisdom of Steve Nicol, who reminds us here that, face it, playing your "home" match on the opponent's field in a Cup tournament is better than not playing in a Cup tournament at all.
"The Boston University men's soccer team will scrimmage with the Revolution April 5 at Nickerson Field at 3 p.m. The scrimmage is open to the public." Not a bad day actually: go to the Riders meeting, then make it back to town for perhaps a bit to eat and then a Revolution scrimmage I can watch some walking distance from my apartment. If the weather's nice, then so much the better. Besides, I can tape the MLS opener. I'll be at Nickerson. The Magpie
Let's see - sit inside and watch two teams who we don't root for - OR - be outside and watch our team play for free Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
As comrade Foley once said, "That horse is so dead that he has already been ground up into Alpo, fed to the dog, digested, and shat out on to the neighbor's well-manicured lawn." Johnny Rev, get some new material. But if you are still obsessed with the roots theme, you gotta ask yourself would Alex Haley be more effective in our midfield than Alex Pineda Chacon? Tom
seriously, though. Is the fake turf in Nickerson Field the same stuff that is going to be used in the Home Depot complex in LA? I've seen a few Breakers games at Nickerson, and the turf didn't seem too awful. The ball does look funny when it bounces on the stuff, though, because it looks like some spray or dust comes up with each bounce.
I was walking on Dragon Stadium in Southlake, TX a couple of weeks ago, I know the look and feel. Better than I thought it would be, but 'different' just-the-same. Seems like it would be fun to roll on. Gives the sense of having a 'padded fall', even if all those little rubber pellets get in your shorts.
"Is the fake turf in Nickerson Field the same stuff that is going to be used in the Home Depot complex in LA? I believe the Galaxy will enjoy playing on natural grass at their new home in Carson, the undersoil irrigation going in as evidenced in the photo below: The Magpie
