Barnes just tweeted that Kevin Alston is an all-star. Nothing official yet, but I imagine the announcement will be soon. Wonder if Joseph will make it as well?

He may have missed too many games? I dunno...he's a force to be sure, but this year? I'm not so sure.

If he is, its probably means hes the next up&coming Revs player to go overseas.

Indeed, congratulations. I know I have expressed my opinion that he is overrated on this board, but I hope this is one of many such awards for Mr. Alston.

I imagine it will come down to a decision on which puts the least amount of attention on the substance abuse issue - putting him on the team or leaving him off.

I suspect that the naming of Alston *might* be a sign that SJ will be left off.

Me too, especially since Alston's level of play has dipped a bit this year as opposed to 2009. But he's as good a choice as any for this year's Revs (I personally would have suggested Burpo had he been healthy).

Alston kind of reminds me of Jay Heaps. Solid defender who has trouble with getting caught up on attacking runs. IIRC, Nicol really worked on that with Heaps and he was much better in the 3-5-2 because he accepted his role as a stay at home defender.

This is a great observation. Alston is a terrific 1 v 1 defender with good instincts and great speed. Where he lacks is in crossing and getting forward. In a 3-5-2 with him Barnes/Osei/Gibbs (pick your other 2), the Revs couild have something to build on in the back while allowing them to occupy the midfield with 5
