Revs notes: Nicol "hopes" to add players By ADAM SMARTSCHAN, STAFF WRITER CAPE COD TIMES February 06, 2008 http://www.capecodonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080206/SPORTS/80205022/-1/NEWS
From today's Globe: "Victor Núñez Rodríguez, a 27-year-old striker with LD Alajuelense in Costa Rica, has received an offer from MLS and hopes to join the Revolution, according to a Costa Rican website."
Well, it sounds like Avery John is gone forever at this point, not that that comes as any surprise. "We certainly hope to bring three or four players in" - Steve Nicol It's better than the typical response of, "we're always looking." Hopefully, we can get at least two of the guys out of Honduras or Costa Rica.
Some good stuff in there. Confirmation that Angulo is on trial, it seems Larentowicz could still be injured from MLS Cup (unless it's something new), Nyassi is back though Mansally's still stuck, John's "disappeared". I'm loving the Cape Cod Times more and more
Adam may just turn out to be our Goff. He responded to my E-mail and I suspect is we make sufficient noise about how much we love his stuff his editor may just let him become the Rev Blogger of choice.
There are alot of great nuggets. It's exactly what we've been asking for. I wonder what the extent of Angulo's injury is and if could having any bering on him getting a contract. It's great to hear that Nyassi is in camp. His quote is interesting explaining why they got held up. Man, those visas are very tricksy things. Hopefully Mansally can make it over next week.
If you post comments under his article, he'll respond to those as well. It has all the makings of a blog as it is.
I wouldn't be to concerned about players icing and needing to sit out once in awhile this early in preseason. Getting back after a lay off is that way for some peoples bodies while others never skip seem to be troubled with early season workouts. Great to read that SN et al recognize they need to add three or four players. My suspicion is that they have most of the players they want (and alternatives) identified and are now doing the dancing around that goes with the contracting game.As another Rev fan said to me yesterday over coffee: "This off season stuff is like being pregnant in the old days when you needed to wait till the baby was born to know anything about your new addition" The fact that they have heard nothing from Avery John can be read in a variety of ways but bespeaks no conclusion. I'd not be surprised if he resigned with the Revs sometime in the next month.
Sent to Adam: "Thanks Adam for the very Newsy report. This is just the kind of stuff we Rev fans have hopped to be able to read on a daily basis in the press but rarely have found. Your stuff has all the makings of a real Rev Blog like Steve Goff does in the Washington Post for DCU and Ives does for the Red Bulls. Please pass on to your Editor our thanks---and keep it coming."
if the Victor Núñez thing is true, i saw him play for Costa Rica on FSC a while ago...if i remember correctly, he was okay with footwork, okay with finishing but really freaking speedy. which would be something we're not used to, a speedy forward. i hope its true.

Not sure if Nunez will be playing in today's match but Costa Rica v Jamaica is on FSN at 6. Might get a chance to see a couple of the Revs targes today
That would be great if Sam Brill makes the team. He certainly has the physical tools to play in MLS. Brill played on the same Greater Boston Bolts club team with Mike Videira, Chris Tierny and Charlie Davies. Who says the Revs need a development Academy ?..they seem to be attracting some local talent without it.
That was a great team. I knew Videira was on it, I don't remember the other guys. Played them once and lost about 6-0. Come on you Bandits!
The FC Dallas blog did a great job explaining how the visa process works in regards to MLS: http://worldcupway.blogspot.com/2008/02/visa-process.html
Ha ha ha! Great quote from Nyassi: "The consular told us we overstayed last time, so we had to work something out before he’d give us a visa." So I wonder exactly how much cash it took to "work something out." I hope the Revs reimburse him for this "business expense."
