    Way to go Jim Dow!

However, if you ever want to reach FDA status, you must mention Jogo Bonito at least 6 times in your essay. Very good stuff otherwise!

in the globe article, fda states that the revs HAVE ALREADY DECIDED to make the switch to 2 games in costa rica. really, people should flood the office with phone calls today and make them either tell us that its a done deal or pressure them to have frankie recind what he wrote.

"The Revolution will play both matches against LD Alajuelense in Costa Rica in the Champions Cup March 23 and 26, surrendering the home-field advantage because of weather considerations."

Sigh. I guess this announcement doesn't deserve more than one line at the end of an article. If it's not important to the Krafts, it isn't going to be to the papers.

We'd have had a better chance at a home game if we were a league-owned team.

Well said. I've also been looking forward to the tournament since it was announced, and I wholeheartedly share your disappointment.

soccertim, no offense....but do you actually believe everything fda writes? he may have no clue. he may be reading the release from concacaf. he may have not even written it. it might be thrown in from some intern back here at home.

if you/we don't make the revs answer this question themselves (like their own press release, or by hitting them point blank with phone calls) and you just fold like a house of cards.....then, hey, why should the revs think we actually care about this match? and why shouldn't they play 2 away games? way to represent.

    Why Bother?

Looks like the Revs management have given up on the Champions Cup. While the Revs' pre-season results hasn't exactly been encouraging, this is all about money.

What surprises me is that they were paid off with only a reported $25,000. Please! It's got to be worth much more to their opponent, who'd spend nearly that much coming up to New England. (Forget all the potential upside to making the next tournament round- that vision is beyond the myopic Revs management).

OTOH, what could the Revs reasonably expect for a home gate, when there is no promotional budget? Yep, when you factor in how much they'd lose opening up Gillette stadium, or more likely leasing another venue, this is a no-brainer. Take the chicken feed and run.

Like Jim Dow suggests, this is another "practical" business decision destined to keep the MLS in the minor leagues of world soccer.

how would you know?....they haven't said anything.

my god, its like the globe could say the team is moving to connecticut and some people would come here and go *sigh*.

    Both Cup matches in CR??

The avg. daily mean temp. F in Boston in March is 38.9 degrees! Are we not men? Play one friggin' game in the US, for God's sake!

This is really an insult to Rev fans everywhere.

Re: Both Cup matches in CR??

I wholeheartedly share your sentiment. And, on top of that, I seriously question the foresight of those who agreed to this arrangement.

That's what home field advantage is supposed to be all about. That's why the US should play Mexico in Portland in late October instead of southern California or play Bolivia in Washington. Wasn't there a match in Foxboro a few years back where El Salvador, methinks, played ??? in November and there was snow mounds framing the pitch? That US v Jamaica match in 2001 wasn't exactly balmy either [Coincidentally, this was on the same day the US began bombarding Afghanistan].

Re: Re: Re: Revs news, 2/25

This isn't something that FDA stated out of the blue. It's been discussed on these boards for days. Also, Many of the posts that I've read were about PHONE CALLS to the Revs, who haven't confirmed this but certainly haven't denied it.

For something like this tournament, there isn't going to be a lot of built-in support. The Revs have to educate the fans about why the tournament is important, why their success is important, and why it's an honor to be there. Look at how few people knew about the Open Cup before we made our run. Look at how few people still know about it. If they won't make any commitment to these tournaments until they see they support is already there, then they should just opt not to enter them.

At the very least, if they're not going to have a home game, they should televise them.

Thats what im saying. Both games better be televised.

If these two games arent televised then i believe the powers that be dont have a flucking clue how get this team over the hump of credibility or how to market this team in a tourney like this.

All they care about is stupid, stupid exhibitions which do nothing more than suck more money out of me.

well, that's obvious don't you think?

I don't consider it to be any more "official" than it was on Friday. Are you going to go on the other threads on this board and the MLS boards about this and dispute all of the posts that everyone else is making, or do you just object to my quoting the Globe article?

this is total bull crap , MLS and the Revs have no respect for themselves or its fans whatsoever. This is a big step backwards for the credibility of MLS and soccer in this country.

It's now on both mlsnet and revolutionsoccer.net. Is it safe to complain yet, or is it still too "unofficial"?

actually- this is more a reflection on the fact that the ccc has no credibility and is a waste of time/money.

i'm sure if the rev's were invited to play in a league that mattered, with tv money etc. on the table, theid be there.

the revs shouldn't be marketing and supporting this crap, it should be the other way around.

focus on mls cup 2003. that is more credible.

Does this suck? Yes. But it happened.

But I do believe that the Revolution have tried to come up with an alternative solution and nothing has made sense for the team and organization. Does it make sense for the fans? No, but I think we, as Revolution fans, should focus more on the team, players and results, than to continue to worry about the business decisions that are made by the organization. The only real choice we can make is to purchase tickets to matches that are available, or not.

This will be the 4th year I have season tickets and I for one can't wait to be parked in the Mustang lot with a grill and cooler beside me.

Lets get behind the team, because I can guarantee that they will be playing their hearts out in Costa Rica.

A bad move by the Revs on this one

But then again just how many fans would they have drawn at home ( outside the BigSoccer crowd ) on a school night in March ? A thought to consider

Now they should get this thing on the tube - perhaps show it in the club house at Gillette ?

I'm with Rev-oke (shocker) and GPK - let's focus on the team

    GO REVS !

    soccertim....let the complaining "officially" begin.

and for the ones that are bending to the company line on this one.....we fans deserve a hellava lot a' credit for sticking with the team last year and for pulling nearly 62k for mlscup. so drop the financial mumbo jumbo garbage. of course, the numbers and the amount of $ they made on mls cup got forgotten as soon as the ledger was shut on 2002. if the revs take 1 dime in compensation for having the 2nd match down there....like gate receipts from that match....or anything, then they clearly sold us fans out and that's not acceptable to me.

i'm hosting a tournament in my back yard tonight, in 1'6" of snow. I'm only charging the revs 50k to show up at the REV-OKe Cup, and I guaruntee, there is no TV contract money, no fans will show, no one will care and they will have to play against me.

i hope you all boycott the revs if they aren't here by 6pm.

after all, i do pay to go to revs games. they owe it to us fans.

I'm a Revs fan and a Kraft fan, and I hate to do it.....but I think this is the right decision.

Let's see - each MLS team has a league set $1,700,000 for salary. Add administrative fees, marketing, uniforms, travel expenses, etc., etc. My guess is that each team spends $4-5 million each year just to operate.

There are 15 home games in which the average (PAID) attendance is probably < 10,000 fans. Let's say the average ticket is $20.00. (And don't forget, all those kids with parents are provided tickets at about $10 each through youth leagues)

Now factor in how much it cost the Krafts to open the stadium for an event. (I've been told it's approximately $100,000 - $150,000 per event).

Do the math and you can clearly see that this team is a BIG TIME Money loser for the Krafts. I don't blame them for whatever excuse that come up with for moving a game that will lose additional money and ruin a field meant for the Patriots.

If fact, let's just enjoy the REVs while they are here...........because they won't be in another 5 years. (Maybe less)

That's the sad truth of MLS and the main reason why there's been zero interest from investors.
