    Two things to remember:

[a] MLS may not pay much, but you'll definitely get what little you've been contracted to receive [unlike many foreign leagues].

Tony Biscaia: I've got a foot and a half of snow on my front lawn - and, you're an a-hole for posting that picture. I'm going to cry a river now :(

    No DiGiamarino?

FDA's article says DiGimarino has gone on to other clubs where he might have a better chance.

This could be a sign that the competition is too good, that there won't be enough money, or that he thinks that there is little chance that the Revs would get him (selecting 9th?).

We do seem to be pretty set at most positions, with the exception of center midfield. I guess if we don't sign Uribe, we will go with one of the following midfield pairings:
Moore-Hernandez with Twellman & Harris up top
Cullen-Hernandez with Twellman & Moore up top
    Moore-Cullen-Hernandez with Twellman up top

On the left side DiGiamarino had to beat out Buhlmann, Uribe, Kamler and Griffiths. But DiGi is not an SI, and he might have been cheaper than Buhlmann and Uribe.

I'm sure that Griffiths has an upside, but is there any chance we can get his SI slot back and enough money to sign both Buhlmann and Uribe?

In any case, it looks like we will be looking at the best side that the Revs have ever put on the field.

At the end of Frank's article--the DC United game on the 30th of July (Wed) has been moved back to the 27th as part of a doubleheader with Juventus & Barcelona.

So we'll play in Columbus on the 23rd, then at home on the 27th. With the All-Star break, the next game is Aug. 9th.

I hate to sound Greedy, but it if Serna signs with another team, will this help the Revs financially? My guess is no, but then the Metros got credit for Diallo.

Does anyone remember when FC Basel beat the Revs 5-0?

If I read FDA and GM correctly, Uribe is a player similar to DH and LC. Unless he can penetrate and/or link up well with the forwards, he may not stick. Buhlmann also sounds as though he has a lot yet to prove. Is this other people's impression also?

Tony: You know I was kidding.

Jon: It was in a scrimmage at the Revs practice field at the now-defunct Wrentham State School [Tony, Emlyn John Lewis, Gus Martins, FDA and myself were there]. F C Basel brought the house, including a few spectators [family]. Even brought their team masseuses and tables.

Yes, sounds like Buhlmann's not etched in stone. Yet.

Regardless of what you think of FDA's reporting, I have to echo Jeff Bradley in today's MLSnet column saying it's absolutely terrific that the Globe and Herald have sent beat writers to Brazil.

We are indeed fortunate to get coverage like this.

    Nice find.

"6. Major kudos the editorial staffs at the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald for sending their Revolution beat reporters (the Globe’s Frank Dell’Apa and the Herald’s Gus Martins) to Brazil with the club for spring training. Since Day One in 1996 (I’ll never forget the above-the-fold coverage in the Globe in ’96 when Frank Stapleton benched Alexi Lalas) Boston has treated the Revs in a big-time manner. Other MLS fans should have it as good as Rev fans, who are kept plugged into the team 365 days a year."

As for FDA, we all enjoy poking a little fun at him, whether it be for the "pink Italian newspapers" he carries in bunches, classic shades or his transcendant literary skills [he's got a pragmatic style, 'ya know, albeit one with a stylish flow - a galvanized one, too]. Heck, I wanna be Frank when I grow up.

Dan, no worries... I know you needed that gorgeous pic to brighten your snowy day.

Jon: here's the RevsNet report from the Basel scrimmage:

Revs Reserves Thumped by Swiss Champions by Emlyn Lewis

It might have been a better match if the Revs had actually tried to play their best players... but, Basel was very impressive indeed.

Now I recall that encounter and I remember thinking, "hmmmnnn, we can't get a goal v. a Swiss Div I team on summer break, we'd better pack it in...." And this was late June with SN in charge but a number of less than first teamers making up the numbers. I wonder exactly what a full bore confrontation between the two teams would be like?

Anyway, I do agree that we get pretty fair reporting hereabouts, at least as print media goes. Radio and TV, well there just aren't any resident experts on staff the way Frank, Gus, etc. are at the local papers (include Lowell, South Shore and Fall River in the mix, too). Sad but there we are. However, between the G & H, Revsnet and BigSoccer I get a great daily dose of info, gossip and invective. Almost as good as the "quality" press in other places, just not as much.

If you travel to any other MLS cities, check the paper(s), they are grim. The NY Times does do a fair amount about soccer but most of it is not about the Mutts. Beyond that and the Wash Post, a wasteland.

Only a foot and a half??? Lucky! ;) It's piled up to 4-5 feet on our lawn.

(insert teenager scream here*) Ohmigod...Justin Timberlake is a Revs fan?!?! :D

Great to see reports from Brazil...in the paper and on the Revs site. Certainly helps calm the withdrawal symptoms before we get to opening day.

Might have been better to refer to the version of that song sung 40 years ago by Julie London, or Ella Fitzgerald...then this would be more believeable.
    :D

While the coverage has been wonderful these past few days, what took FDA so long to file? Gus was way ahead. Nothing I like better than folding the sports page to a HUGE Revs article, and putting my feet up!! (or, going online to RevsNet and doing the same)

Hey if you want to play "mines bigger than yours" the temp up here on the Isalnd last Friday and Saturday night was minus 56-60 C. About 10% of homes on the Island had their piples freeze. Even my dog wouldn't go out.

Did I miss a formal announcement that Llamosa signed? He clearly has, as Nicol has talked about having him back, but I haven't seen anything about it on the Revs or MLS' home page. Do they not announce re-signings? You would at least expect the Revs to show a little 'respect' by announcing the signing.

Good point. I do like Ella Fitzgerald, but I can't say I've heard her version. My father gave me my love for jazz, blues and R&B (I listen to many types of music). Maybe he has a copy of it. HE was a teenager 40 years ago. I, however, say again I am not a teenager. I'm a twenty-something. I swear! :) I think the reference popped up since I hear that song over and over and over at work everyday.

I think you'd win hands down every time. :) My dog hasn't complained too much yet. Loves the snow, but she did look like her paws were starting to freeze and she stopped midstep when we had negative wind chills recently. Can't imagine what it's like up there.

As far as Llamosa goes...does seem strange that there isn't a formal announcement somewhere yet. Maybe he hasn't physically signed yet. Wasn't that the case with Taylor and Joe-Max for a while before the announcements made the web pages?
