Revs' quest begins anew: Heaps ready for the Crew by Gus Martins Sunday, October 6, 2002 http://www2.bostonherald.com/sport/soccer/revs10062002.htm Columbus speed a concern Revolution Notebook/by Gus Martins Sunday, October 6, 2002 http://www2.bostonherald.com/sport/soccer/rnots10062002.htm Revs just might go all the way by Don Cuddy/The Standard-Times http://www.s-t.com/daily/10-02/10-06-02/c01sp069.htm Revolution make every inch count Opportunistic team now measuring Crew By Frank Dell'Apa, Globe Staff, 10/6/2002 http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/279/sports/Revolution_make_every_inch_count+.shtml
The Rev were also mentioned in Will McDonough's- as if anyone expected differently- in a negative manner. The quote is: "This past week seemed to blow a hole in the theory that the Revolution don't get their due around here. The mantra out of Foxboroough since the Major League Soccer team started playing there was they didn't get enough attention in the local media. The theory was that the Revolution were averaging around 15,000 or so a game, that was just as much as the Celtics or Bruins, so they should be treated accordingly. This week, playing two home playoff games in a season for the first time ever, the team averaged less than 7,000 per game. The Celtics and Bruins would not draw less than 7,000 for a playoff game. This shows that when the kids are in school, the team has about 7,000 hard core fans. Not 15,000..." Jon
Uh-huh The day Will McDonough exhibits an informed opinion is the day "Red" Foley takes the columnist's temperature with his index finger. The Magpie
i think the only additional one i had, was from the columbus dispatch thanks for the standard-times one
I saw that, and totally ignored it, too. There are times when it's evident that Will couldn't find his posterior cavity with both hands. Will's the ultimate I'll-scratch-your-back-and-you-scratch-mine type of guy. His personal credo is this: I help my friends (John Harrington, Bill Parcells, Jeremy Jacobs, et al) and screw my enemies as well as those of my friends (Mo Vaughn, Roger Clemens, Terry Glenn, Ben Coates, et al). I love reading his columns, though. He is, however, clearly at war with the English language.
there was a second mention in that column... granted it wasn't as pressing, but did go to show that the krafts were doing very well and the future of the revs should really never be doubted provided the krafts don't start selling stuff
Wow. I missed it the first time around. Don Cuddy used a Dell'Apa-ism: Pragmatic. Watch out. The next column will contain the word 'galvanize.' Can 'Brazil' be far behind?
Revolution, Crew bent on reversing fortunes Both are strangers to the MLS Cup, but that will soon change for one Sunday, October 6, 2002 by Craig Merz THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH http://www.1460thefan.com/tf.php?story=dispatch/news/sports02/oct02/1523451.html (For the record, to circumvent paying for the Columbus Dispatch sports, go to www.1460thefan.com and there's a Crew link).
FSNE Rev Ratings highest ever From the Globe "Last Wednesday's victory over Chicago drew a 1.7 rating on FSNE, the network's best for a Revolution game, topping the 1.3 against Dallas on Sept. 25, 1998 " Suck on that McDonough. LOL.
Re: FSNE Rev Ratings highest ever Also, please remind Mr. McDonough that MLS sported the NFL a 70 year head start. No, we're not ready for prime time, but, the numbers are growing. It's just that QWill McDonough isn't in the "young enough" demographic.
Re: FSNE Rev Ratings highest ever i just checked all the articles from the boston papers for today... this wasn't in there... to prevent myself from doing a wild goose chase any longer... could you provide me the link to that thanks
Its not the future of the Revs we need to worry about, its the league itself, particularly the teams that are perennial money losers (ie San Jose). The only thing that would make the Krafts bail right now is if they perceive that there is no immediate hope the league overall will make money. Its not the operations of the Revs that has problems, it the revenue-sharing, cash calls that make the difference. The sooner all the teams are in their own stadia the better.
It's in SporTView http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/279/sports/Fans_are_buying_into_eBay+.shtml All the way at the bottom. Last Paragraph.
