A small group of us stuck around in the Fort. Not exactly anything to write home about, but it was an enjoyable experience.
I watched on MLS+ Both teams looked really shakey. Rennicks had some really good moments creating chances, Rivera missed some really good chances but credit to him for finding so many good spots to be. I didn't care for the new Botofogo kid Michel. Rice did really poorly on the 2nd goal, reacted very slowly
Watched the first half: my friend and I were in agreement that Revs II would have beaten most of the Rev I teams of the 90's.
I think that just speaks to the broad-scale improvement in American soccer over the last generation. That said, I didn't see many difference-makers or diamonds in the rough on the RII.
Im still sad we couldnt come to an agreement with Nic Firmino. I think he has senior team upside, and wont be surprised if he wins L1 poty this year
As far as I can tell Luis Caicedo is not playing for Revs II other than one of their first game of the season. He hasn't made a first team bench. Is he at least practicing with one of the two teams? Does anyone have any idea what his status is?
Pretty interesting interview with the newest signing: https://www.wickedlocal.com/story/l...eenage-soccer-star-now-making-pro/5207277001/ I used to play in Lexington, so it's pretty likely I crossed paths with this kid when he was a little hotshot. I don't know if he ever played for Lexington High, but they had some really good teams a couple of years ago, when Robbie Mustoe's sons were in HS. Fujiwara is probably the same age as the younger one.
R2 vs FTL, 5pm Friday May 28th at Gillette. Revolution II Preview | New England closes homestand against Fort Lauderdale CF posted: May 27, 2021, 10:05AM EDT revolutionsoccer.net
R2 get another win over the Baby Beckhams last night, 1-0. One month after signing with R2, defender Pierre Cayet headed home a beautiful free kick for his first professional goal. The Frenchman recently graduated from Temple U. R2 had the better play, but did give up a PK, and a few other quality shots. Fortunately Earl Edwards Jr was up to the task, earning a well deserved clean sheet. Christian Mafla got the start at LB and played about 70'. He actually scored twice, but was flagged for offsides both times.
Revolution II Preview | New England begins three-match road swing at Richmond June 4, 2021, 9:33AM EDT revolutionsoccer.net
Tough game for R2 today. Really poor defending (especially Spaulding) and sloppy finishing (especially from Kizza and Rivera). Strong performances from Mafla, Quinones, and Rozhansky in the chance generation deparment
R2 had 5 first-teamers in the starting lineup, including debuts from Brad Knighton and Edward Kizza. Conceded a goal only 30 seconds in. Mafla went 90 and again was active on the offensive end. Suspect defending though.
watching the game I couldnt quite tell if they were playing a 4-4-2 or a 5-3-2. I tend to favor the idea that it was a 442 based on Mafla's positioning in defense, although once Spaulding subbed off they changed to a 433 and Mafla played FB. In either case Spaulding looked wretched in that role
Can't help it, every time I hear the name Spalding, I think of the Smails kid (the nose picker) from Caddyshack.
Revolution II Preview | New England continues road trip Saturday at Union Omaha posted: June 11, 2021 10:03AM EDT revolutionsoccer.net
Recap | Revolution II falls to first-place Union Omaha, 4-2, on the road June 13, 2021 10:04AM EDT revolutionsoccer.net I'm a bit concerned about Knighton. He's started two games in a row for R2, presumably in preparation for Turner being gone for the Gold Cup. He's allowed 7 goals in those 2 games. Can't blame him for all those, his defenders share the blame. But his distribution was poor, and he almost got red carded in this one for a DOGSO tackle outside the box. It wasn't clear and obvious, so he escaped with a yellow. To be fair, Knighton also had a Save-of-the-Week worthy save. Earl Edwards Jr (also 2 games for R2, 3 GA) may have surpassed him on the depth chart. Omaha (5-1-2, 17 pts) is atop L1, while R2 is 10th of 12 at 2-4-1.
One can only hope ... Nothing against Knighton, but I feel like we know what he can do - and it's okay. But, if Edwards can pass him, that's all good IMO.
I watched both games. If you want tape on knighton that makes you worry, his 1st half against Omaha was bad. But like you said, the defense (specifically down our left side) has been below standard, and Turner probably doesnt stop more than 3 of the remaining 5 goals. Still Turner will be gone for roughly a month, and it will suck playing backup musical chairs, Edwards is the only keeper who hasnt had an absolute howler for R2 this year
This team is so weak in defense and midfield. They cant reliably progress the ball from defense into attack, and the defense is just so friggin porous. Madison should have had at least 3 goals in the half and could have had like 6, just need to learn how to shoot at the net. From the back 6 only guys I keep are Pressley (if you count him as a FB) and maybe Quinones. Get rid of the rest/send them to the bench. Buck now has 3 goals. He plays as an attacking mid/SS, and never touches the ball in the build up. He doesnt contribute defensively. But he is also always making a run in the box, and seems to know where he needs to be to score a goal. I truly do not know how to feel about that. Rennicks/Pressley are definitely good enough at this level. Very smooth touches and good positioning. Need work on dribbling or finishing if they are going to play a big role for senior team. I want to add Rivera to this category but he is extremely wasteful with chances. All the GK seem to make at least 1 big mistake per game. If anyone is going to be a Bell/Maciel from this team its Rennicks or Pressley, and even then it feels like theyre both at least 1 more year away
Interesting. They state 20 MLS clubs in the inaugural season. USL-L1 has 4 MLS owned (NE,MIA,DAL,TOR) and 1 affiliate (CHI) USL-C has 7 MLS owned (ATL,LAG,DCU,NRB,RSL,SKC,SEA) and 4 affiliates (COL,LAFC,HOU,NYC). That makes 16. Add some recently folded USL clubs (PHI,POR,ORL) and we get close.

Maciel is included on the current roster, despite not playing in R2. Leading scorer Noah Buck is missing, so is Scicoulis the 2nd leading scorer, as well as Rennicks and Rivera (Verfuth is included so I assume this roster list is supposed to be inclusive of loans) the generic info all looks right
