Time for a new season and a new crop of academy players http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/news/2011/08/2011-12-youth-squads-announced In total, 40 players from the New England region were selected for the Revolution’s youth squads, 19 for the under-18 team and 21 for the under-16 team. Scales and his staff added 18 new players, including seven U18s and 11 U16 players Declan McCabe has been selected for the USMNT residency camp in Bradenton, Florida.
I know Colin Sweeney, Jack Hilger, and Diego but of course everyone now knows Diego now. Colin is very, very, fast, and he's a good dribbler too. He's listed as a defender but he's actually a winger. I don't think he'll ever be good enough for the pro's though, but you never know. Jack is a good all-around midfielder with good skill and dribbling ability and a great shot from distance as well. Jack was already doing scissors and crazy 1 v 1 moves when we were like 8, and I have higher hopes for him than Colin. I'm not entirely sure if he'll make it, but I always claimed Diego was overrated when I used to play against him so I'm obviously not the best at evaluating potential. He definitely has at least a chance.
Defending champion Akron is an unlikely men's soccer power Looks like Revs Academy grad Scott Caldwell will be co-captain for Akron in his third year there.
My understanding is the Rev's still hold his MLS rights when he decides to turn pro, but that is probably still two years away.
His sister was a really strong player as well, and was of the same build. I don't think he's going to get a lot bigger.
Unless he is absolutely jacked, there is no way he can ever play as a defender in any professional league unless he grows to 5'6 at a minimum. If he can play as a winger, that would be a little better, but still pretty iffy.
As the father of a 5" tall 14-year-old who played defense, I think youth coaches sometimes have different tactical approaches than pro coaches. Speed is often a bigger assets than size at that level.
I think it's also because set plays are less of a factor, and the games are called more tightly than pro games.
True but the ultimate goal of youth academies are to develop these players into potential first teamers, so players shouldn't be playing in positions they couldn't play at the pro level if they make it that far.
I reached my full height at 15, and a lot of my friends were pretty close by then too. He'll likely only tack on a couple inches max.
I'm not sure about the second part of that sentence. The older refs usually call it pretty tight, but the younger ones often forget they have a whistle.
F*ck lets sign her. I'm sure shed be a better investment then whatever move the FO is going to make next.
