All true ... but, of the 3 DPs, Gil was the worst one to lose - by a good margin. It was a critical vulnerability that we were so dependent on one single player - but we were/are. Hopefully LN changes that, we'll see. The roster-building is one thing that suffered under Burns, but the other critical thing was player development. We now have about 3 years worth of young players just this year getting significant development work, not too mention those that got lost (ex., Herivaux) because we didn't have that. As we've seen throughout the Revs' history, if a young player can find a place in the lineup quickly, they tend to develop and thrive (ex., Larentowicz, Noonan). If they don't, they stagnate and never establish themselves (ex., Herivaux, Steve Neuman, Marshall Leonard, ...).
You totally disagree with my statement that Lee will be a key contributor for the revs.... by saying he will be a key contributor for the revs? I'm confused

Im sorry... I misread your original statement as saying they would not be key contributors. My bad. As I said earlier... They will be key contributors, especially Lee. He has to know this is his last shot in MLS.
I guess I would argue that making essentially incremental improvements is about the same as standing pat. While, in isolation, the acquisition of a McNamara or a Manneh looks like progress, it really isn't. (Though of course it depends what they were acquired for -- backup/depth, or to be starters.) Nguyen is a bit of a different case. He's a guy I would certainly applaud the Revs for taking a flyer on, given his excellence in the past. But every player in the world has a sell-by date, and Nguyen is presumably approaching his, if he hasn't passed it. I'd love to see him have a renaissance (Revaissance?), but I think we'd be foolish to place all our hopes on it. And yes, other MLS teams have made more savvy additions that the Revs missed out on -- primarily by fishing in Argentinian waters.
Player costs: Lee Nguyen- 4th rd pick and up to $50k (so essentially free) Tommy Mac- Wilfried Zahibo and his intl roster spot until EoY. Received $175k in deal Kekutah Manneh- the intl roster slot vacated by Caicedo until EoY. (So essentially free) On a purely cost analysis these are great deals. On a talent analysis, Manneh and Tommy are career MLS rotation guys, but so is the majority of the revs roster. From an initial performance analysis Tommy has been great. Manneh hasnt played, so maybe thats not a great deal (and adds more volume to Bruce's opinion of Justin Rennicks). All in all the deals are A+, even if the overall impact is low-medium
You make a good point, and particularly in the case of Zahibo, where there was a bit of addition by subtraction. I might quibble with the assertion that McNamara has been great. He's been okay, but particularly in the Chicago match, aside from his assist, his passing map was really unimpressive.
I think McNamara gets short-changed on stats because of his intangibles. He brings an intensity and energy - and it sure looks to me like that's rubbing off on some of the guys around him (I'm thinking Bunbury, more than anyone else).

Midseason awards: Who could take home MLS honors in 2020? September 29, 2020 11:15AM EDT Greg Seltzer Just one man's opinion, but he has Matt Turner in top 3 for Keeper of the Year, and Henry Kessler the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year.
Matt Reis was a great keeper for us for a long time, but he, along with Shuttleworth and just about every other keeper we've had would occasionally just whiff and allow one that everyone could agree should have been stopped. Yet, with Turner, I can't even remember if/when that's happened.
I was listening to ExtraTimeRadio podcast and Doyle is a big fan of Turner. This article recaps what he said: Matt Turner ahead of Zack Steffen as US national team goalkeeper? Matt Doyle explains September 30, 2020 9:17AM EDT
Yeah, pretty funny reading some of the comments - people are so entrenched in their opinions that they refuse to entertain a different view.
Revolution’s match vs. Philadelphia Union rescheduled for October 19 Posted: October 11, 2020 revolutionsoccer.net I assume this is due to Patriots-Broncos game being moved to 10/18.
Makes sense. But, also interesting, that since live attendance is not currently a factor, there's an amazing amount of flexibility in scheduling. The bigger priority in scheduling is now totally TV viewership. MLS has stuck to traditional scheduling times for the most part up to now, but they don't need to.

It took me a few extra beats to not misunderstand the positive message not unhidden in the double negatives.
Random observation: of the bottom 4 teams in the East, the Revs played DC United 4 times (claiming 10 of 12 pts), but never played the other 3: ATL, MIA, or CIN.
