It certainly would free up a spot but I am wondering if Bruce saw enough of him to try him in the play maker role since Diego can't handle it, Rowe is not suited and we loose a lot with Bou there. Also gets him on the field with Penilla and or Teal
I'm guessing he's looking for a different way to skin the cat. Get a more credible wing threat opposite Penilla and that opens up space for Bou, Buksa and Penilla, as well.

I had missed this little nugget from when the regular season resumed: MLS releases 2020 return to season schedule August 8, 2020 12:14PM EDT MLSsoccer staff That's 69% of the teams making the playoffs. Revs currently 9th in the East, so above the line!
"If the other kids jump off a cliff, would you?" It's just an attempt to get back some lost cash flow from this best-forgotton year/season.
It is, but it's also understanding (especially in the case of baseball and soccer) that the shortened season is going to make the standings a lot closer than they would be after a normal season. This especially applies to baseball obviously.
It is that, but it's not just that. Teams have lost a lot of games, especially those who didn't make the later rounds of the tournament. Everyone wants to play games - nothing wrong with giving them more opportunities to do so, if they can do it safely.
I get the idea that it's an f'ed up season already, so why not, but I feel like this makes the Cup even more asterisk-worthy. Might be a bit of a "kids get offa my lawn" response from an old guy who remembers NL Pennant met AL Pennant in the World Series.
Lee Nguyen is back. Adding to this, per a source: Revs sending a fourth-rounder in the 2021 draft and up to $50k in General Allocation Money to Miami in exchange for Nguyen. https://t.co/K7zzietX2y— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) September 8, 2020
I'm excited about this move. Competition for minutes should only go up. I'm hopeful this pushes Diego out of the midfield. Im worried that it will instead move Tommy out of refular midfield minutes
Not a fan of Lee, but this is definitely a move that makes sense in the absence of Gil. Should really help Bou and Buksa.
Could it mean that Bruce has decided that McNamara can't be a regular? I do like the move - and I like McNamara.
Confirmed: New England Revolution acquire Lee Nguyen from Inter Miami September 8, 2020 3:33PM EDT Tom Bogert Hard to believe he has only been gone 28 months.
Oh happy day!!!!! Best news I've heard in a long time. Im so happy. He was going nowhere in Miami and neither is that team. Exactly what we need as well as Lee. Someone that can create offense!!! and control the ball!!! We can now retire the name "He that shall not be named"
Seconded. Haven't seen him much since he left, but I think in his 2nd coming, he's going to have to move the ball a lot quicker (a la Gil). His old way of holding the ball until he got fouled at midfield is not what we need. I feel pretty optimistic that Arena will know how to utilize his skills well. And, though there aren't a lot of them, I think it will be a big boost to his former running mates - Farrell, Rowe, Caldwell and Bunbury (leaving anyone out?). Once again, after the Polster, Manneh and McNamara moves, I'm stunned at how active Arena is in the trade market. And how little we've given up. Have we ever made this many deals in-season? The only ones coming to mind are our blockbuster with the Metrostars (but that was single deal) and the dispersal/re-allocation of the Mutiny and Fusion (though that was in the off-season, IIRC).
I'd be interested to see what Lee's current contract is. Last reported he was around 530k. I wonder if he is making less after his move to Miami. As for the trade, everyone else that tried to play Gil's role failed the audition. Lee at least knows how to run an offense. With a faster team around him than the last time he was here he will need to play faster. I am sure Bruce will drive that home
Let's see Lee paired with Tommy Mac in the middle for now. Tommy may somewhat counter Lee's more methodical approach. Who knows, maybe that mix will unlock something. Nothing else really has so far. [Anyone still imagining that Diego is suddenly going to become a different player, or that Penilla is suddenly going to become a different player, or that Caldwell is suddenly going to become a different player, or that Rowe is suddenly going to become a different player, or that [name here...]..... ....well, it's most likely that they simply are who they are.]
