When someone gets word of the result and or match details, please feel free to post them here. Revs are scheduled to Micaelense today but I'm not sure at what time.

Thanks to the miracle of cellphones and the kindness of strangers [well, not really]...

    Revs lineup ---
    Reis
    Heaps
    Pierce
    Llamosa
    Franchino
    Marshall [wide left]
    Pepe
    Dempsey
    Baker [wide right]
    TnT
    JMM

First half finished nil-nil. At about the 20' mark of the second half Pepe was chopped in the box, resulting in a PK, which he easily converted [word has it that it was "cheeky."]

Brown replaced Reis in the second half.

That's all I know so far. Uniao Micalense is a v/g club - giving C.D. Santa Clara a run for their money.

Several years ago when the Revs played the Long Island Rough Riders in the U.S. Open Cup, Jeff Causey's first match for the club actually, Bob Moynihan called in game updates from Connecticut to Fred Kfoury in New Hampshire so he could post results on the old Revs ISFA email LISTSERV.

Hey, it works, and the "miracle of cellphones" is much appreciated in this case.

Link on the Revs homepgae doesn't appear to be working, but the Revs did come out 1-0 winners this afternoon, the goal being Pepe's PK.

Here's the story from the website. The link is busted, but I clicked on a different story, clicked on "NEXT" on the bottom of the story , and got to it. (You can post things like this here, right?)

"The Revolution continued the pre-season schedule with a 1-0 win over União Micaelense of the Azores. An expertly- placed penalty kick by José “Pepe” Cancela gave the Revs the lead and goalkeeper Matt Reis posted a shutout in what was a very physical match. This is the Revolution’s second consecutive pre-season victory in Sao Miguel.

In a tightly contested match-up, both teams were held scoreless until Cancela was taken down in the box and awarded a penalty kick in the second half. With graceful artistry, the midfield magician placed his shot calmly into the back of the net catching the keeper leaning the wrong way. This is Cancela’s second goal of the pre-season.

As the game progressed, the Revs continuously denied União Micaelense’s attempts at the equalizer. Reis and the Revolution veteran backfield remained stalwart throughout the remainder of the match.

    NER
    M.Reis, J.Heaps, R.Pierce, C.Llamosa, J.Franchino, M.Leonard (C.Brown), C.Dempsey, J.Cancela, R.Baker (L.Vercollone), T.Twellman, J.M.Moore

The Revolution's next match will be on Friday on the island.

yeah, i know......can you imagine if this were more than a 'friendly' for the azorean team too? :)

Face it , play this same game in the middle of the Revolution season and you would get a very similar result........the fact is, the Revolution are not much better than what 3rd divison European teams have to offer. PERIOD !

    Canuck10, welcome to the boards.

Let's see, two victories should place us atop the Eastern division of MLS or at the bottom of the Portuguese league ( they've had a head start and played more games than we have this year).....no,no, wait a second.....this is PRESEASON and the games don't count.....

    HAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA........That's funny.

funnier still will be reading the game report from Santa Clara's demolition of the Revolution.........Face it , with the exception of a couple players, the Revolution are nothing more than a collection of amateurs or should be part-timers!........Franchino???? hahahahaha, that guy should be playing hockey rather than soccer , the skillset of a BULL wearing cleats. .....

Do you hate the Revs or just MLS in general?

Just incase you wanted to know how MLS teams match-up against the EPL:
    D.C. 1- 1 Leeds United

    D.C. 2-1 Blackburn (PKS)

D.C. 1-0 Tottenham (2 seperate times, once at home once away)

    Wouldn't be the first time.

    1. There are no amateurs on the Revolution. I'm pretty sure they all get paid.

    2. Wasn't Joey's free kick winner against Columbus in September a finalist for MLS Goal of the Year? Not bad for guy with no skill.

    3. The only thing more meaningless than a friendly is an out-of-season friendly... or maybe you think the MetroStars really ARE better than Bayern Munich.

... not to mention the Revs were playing with 1/4 of their starting midfield (and 2 forwards who are coming off long injury layoffs).

The Globe also mentioned the strong defense of Uniao Micalense - looks like they give up an average of about 1/2 goal per game.

And sometimes a pk is a gift and sometimes it's just consolation for being cheated out of goal - you'd have to see the game to judge...

A guy from a country who once let Geoff Aunger wear the #10 jersey calls Joe Franchino a "no-talent hacK"?

    This guy is pretty funny!

Geoff "out of bounds" Aunger.....That was hilarious!!!!! :) .....Yes , i totally agree that guy was brutal, his first touch was more like a direct REBOUND off his knees 5 metres either side of his body........BUT watch out there buddy, we Canucks not only have a team now that can compete with you Yankess but may very well be capable of beating you guys....European based players in Ian Hume, Radzinski, Peschisolido, stalteri,Aguair, and De Rosario ( MLS - Earthquakes), solid goalkeeping, leadership on defence with Devos, great coach in Frank Yallop, and more young and up and coming players....LOOK OUT FOR THE BOYS FROM THE GREAT WHITE NORTH IN THE NEAR FUTURE !!!!!! .........................but let's get back to the Revolution, plain and simple apart from Adin brown, JMM, TnT, Joseph, & Cancela, there ain't nobody worth ******** !!!!! .....come on, please... brown? Kamler? Llamosa? Franchino? these are really amateurs and cannot really be considered 1st division pro players......and i was just pointing out the fact that New England has stated previously that they could never sign a portugeuse player for some reason or other ,it was as if they are/were saying these players are not good enough.....PLEASE !!!!!! New England has such a large portugeuse fan base in the massachussettes area they can try to market too if they made an effort, this trip was a good start, BUT trust me when i say this there are at least 10-15 players in the azores right now who are better than half of the revolution lineup right now....Why not sign one of these players?....apparently, from reports they are showing well in theses preseason games and can compete and will show even more when Santa clara and potentially Santo Antonio Beat you in the upcoming games........I would dearly like to see a midseason game between the Revolution and one of these lower division portugese teams if only to take away the 'in training' excuse you guys seem to like to use when the Revolution put up these crappy results against so-called 'inferior' competition.....HAHAHAH....I AM CONVINCED ! play the same game with a full New England squad 3 months from today and you get the same type of game vs 3rd division Azores because the Revolution talent level is equal or somewhat inferior !

You are aware that Carlos Llamosa was a USMNT starter?

When exactly was the last time Canada made the World Cup?

In the words of a great American philosopher, "Don't sing it... bring it."

Brian Kamler scored more goals last year than Dwayne DeRosario has ever scored in an MLS season.

And when it comes to judging who is and isn't a good player, let's just say that Steve Nicol and Paul Mariner have just a little big more credibility than you do.

Yeah, what we really need to turn this franchise around -- to get us out of the basement of the MLS Eastern Conference -- is to sign more guys like Carlos Semedo and Chiquinho Conde.

So, Chucky Llamosa is good enough to make the USMNT that beat Portugal in the last World Cup, but "cannot be considered a 1st division pro player"??? That must have been their problem -- too many guys like Figo and Gomes, and not enough players from Uniao Micaelense.
