All traffic is not the same. 20,000 visitors spread over the course of the day or week is different than 20,000 visitors showing up at once.
New to who? You’re not the audience for this story. Besides, I’m not sure you want “real investigative reporting” on this story. Unless you want to know who Mayor Demaria is taking bribes from.
Just want to add that everyone can whine about politicians wanting their cut, but the fact is, at some point the Krafts we’re going to have to engage publicly with all the possible interest groups for this project. If they don’t, it proves they were never serious.
Stand alone bill for Stadium has been filed ============ Ok, #NERevs Everett stadium update: It appears State Sen. Sal DiDomenico followed through on what he'd previously said and filed a standalone stadium bill (did so on Dec. 26). It's publicly available as SD 2908 here: https://t.co/xHV5uCnJfa pic.twitter.com/JBeS2YUDZI— Hayden Bird (@haydenhbird) December 29, 2023
This might be easier for people to read. https://commonwealthbeacon.org/economy/short-takes-healey-backs-everett-soccer-stadium/
Okay, here we are at Jan 31st. Wasn't this bill supposed to get voted on this month as a stand-alone?
This is the Mass. Legislature we're talking about, they're never in a hurry. The bill was referred to Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies. But no hearing has been scheduled, according to their website.
Sadly this could be a prelude to "killed in committee." Something no one wants to be on record as voting against, but the right package of sweetening the deal for the NIMBY's didn't happen.
Well, everything goes to Committee, that's how it's done. If there's deal-making to be done, it's happening somewhere else.
NIMBY Power - Activated! But for NWSL stadium not MLS https://www.boston25news.com/news/l...on/DSHZPLESGZBKNMDR7LYEYI2GCU/?outputType=amp Not Revolution but demonstrates competing interests in Boston
https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/02...-palace-has-sparked-huge-controversy-lawsuit/ The full article is behind a paywall, but this Wu quote is classic considering her complaints about not being included in Everett's plans because of traffic concerns: "And the approval process has certainly been rushed. The proposal has already moved through a series of city reviews — exactly the kind of insider-driven fast-track process Wu has railed against her entire career. When I talked to her Tuesday, Wu conceded that the project has been unusually speedy, driven by the need to be ready for the 2026 season. But she said she believes this is a “generational” opportunity, and strongly defended her decision to ram it through." I don't think there is much chance for Everett by 2026, and I am not sure NWSL can really afford to start off in a reduced/unimpressive start here, but the two ownership groups trying to build two different sites, seems like a real opportunity lost. The fact that you have Kraft vs Henry in those groups is probably a complete non starter for that process to move forward together. I hope both teams can work something out that makes sense for everyone.
You don't think there's a chance for approval for the Everett site? I am not completely disagreeing but they seem like different situations to me. the most obvious difference being one in Everett other in Boston. Has there been any major opposition to the everett site? edit: due to misreading the quotes
There's been no real opposition but the State just won't move on passing legislation for changing the area from a port designation to an entertainment designation. It nearly got voted on last December, but Wu, ironically, stepped in and acted surprised by the bill and cited potential traffic concerns just over the line in Boston. I find this hilarious as the same concerns exist at Franklin Park; maybe worse ones. So they stripped it from the package of Bills. They also stripped it because they wanted to include bills they deemed a higher priority at the 11th hour. Since then there's been a stand-alone bill for Everett sent to Beacon Hill, but that appears to be languishing as well. It's so maddening.
More movement today on the stadium discussion. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/03/07/business/revolution-soccer-stadium-everett-beacon-hill/ Headline: Revs stadium plan will finally get its day on Beacon Hill After years of quiet lobbying, a bill to enable a soccer stadium on the Mystic River will get a public hearing soon. State House rules say hearing must take place within a month.
This is now clearly the furthest any plan has gotten. And the Krafts will probably have to show their faces wrt a stadium plan now. I'd love to see a plan get approved, but I'm already getting nauseated at the thought of a potential Bilello victory dance.
NYCFC has just released renderings of its new Naming Rights Sponsor Stadium: https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/new-york-city-fc-stadium-update-the-cube-to-create-wow-moment.
And they better be prepared to answer the questions that will come from the Boston reps and CLF. Though I think CLF is largely focused on process, so I'm not sure what deal they would accept.
I’ll take the trade off of having to think Bilello is less of an ineffectual jackass than I currently do if it means I get to take my kid to Revs games without having to drive to the end of the earth to sit in a 2/3 empty NFL stadium.

A question for those more familiar with the area: What, if any, transit options are there to and from the vicinity of the proposed stadium site? By my understanding, the MBTA has a number of bus routes in Everett itself, though the nearest rail line stops are in Medford (for the Orange Line of the T) or in Chelsea (for the Newburyport/Rockport Line of the MBTA Commuter Rail). Or it is more likely that, if this stadium site proposal actually goes ahead, the MBTA might consider adding (or perhaps re-routing) one of their Everett bus lines on match days, in order to make it easier for commuters elsewhere in Greater Boston to get to the games and back again?
Here's what Encore says about public transportation: To make getting to our world-class resort as easy as possible, we created a variety of road and water transportation options, to enjoy effortless, direct rides from the T and other locations throughout Boston, as well as surrounding areas. On weekends and holidays, our busiest times, we recommend visitors park at the Wellington MBTA Station and use our free Encore shuttle, or park at Encore's Rivergreen parking facility and take our free Neighborhood Runner shuttle direct to our resort. They also offer a free water shuttle: Getting here is almost as fun as being here. Our luxury motor yachts depart day and night from Long Wharf North in downtown Boston. Climb aboard, enjoy the ocean breezes, be here before you know it. Long Wharf North - Encore October 2 through April 28, 2024 I would expect a stadium to offer similar options at a higher volume on game days.
