This is the right answer. The Revs stadium won’t mitigate the need for Gillette to be upgraded, and the need to upgrade Gillette won’t mitigate the value of a separate Revs stadium. The announcement doesn’t change anything for the Revs.
Well, unless the quarter billion dollars they're blowing on this could be spent on a Revs stadium instead.
If Bob Kraft is in position where he has to make "either this or that" decisions when it comes to spending that kind of money, then his business is in a bad way. This isn't me deciding whether I should renovate my kitchen or buy a new car. That's why we've always been pissed about the historical lack of investment into the Revs. They've always been able to invest in the Pats and the Revs at the same level (not dollar for dollar, just treating each with the same level of commitment). They chose to treat the Revs differently. If that truly has changed, renovating Gillette shouldn't stop them from building a new stadium for the Revs. I will never get my hopes up until something is actually announced and really happening, but I have a hard time believing that they would have to make a "one or the other" kind of decision.
Agreed. One thing I feel relatively certain about is that the Krafts know how they're going to pay for both the Gillette upgrade and a future Revs stadium.
I would also guess that the Gillette upgrades are for keeping pace with the NFL and to make the venue more attractive to FIFA for the World Cup.
Yes, this is true - but I truly believe it has no impact on a Revs' stadium. They didn't build Gillette because they love the Pats, they did it because it was a good business opportunity. And, they're doing the upgrade because "it's a good ...". And, if/when they build a Revs' stadium it will be because "it's a ...".
I think they did build Gillette because they love the Patriots and understood it wasn't a sustainable business without it.
Some news regarding the potential Everett site. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2022/02...5359305&s_campaign=todaysheadlines:newsletter No mention of a potential stadium, but plenty of opportunity opening up in the area.
That's because any stadium would not be on that property as I understand it. It would be adjacent where the powerplant will be torn down.
First post in this series was on Dec 7th, 2010 and the Revs are no closer to a stadium deal. Think about that, over 11 years of us talking about a stadium that was supposed to have broken ground 12-24 months from the original report. Pretty obvious a soccer only stadium is not a priority. Gillette will be 20 years old this year. Think the Pats get a new stadium before the Revs?
If Kraft wants a new stadium for the Pat's I'm not sure he'd be doing the level of renovations he's doing this spring with the new Lighthouse project.
not saying he does just saying the Pats will get a new stadium before the Revs get a soccer only stadium
Yes, agree. But the article mentioned that Wynn has other properties and plenty of other plans in the surrounding area - and I thought that was possible Rev interest, however abstract.
One factor that may be at play in Everett is the mayor could be in serious trouble for putting spy cams in the office of the school superintendent. That might freeze up development as it's usually the city executive who runs point on these things and Carlo DeMaria has been a very naughty boy.
Oh, it's a lot more than that. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/10...k-trade-lawsuits-over-corruption-allegations/ https://www.bostonherald.com/2019/0...plosive-new-allegations-against-wynn-resorts/ https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2...pucwCO/story.html?p1=Article_Inline_Text_Link https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2...JO0z0I/story.html?p1=Article_Inline_Text_Link
Yet another stadium making progress surpassing the Revs: Inter Miami get stadium approval in Miami Freedom Park project vote By MLSsoccer staff Thursday, Apr 28, 2022, 09:31 PM
Everett back in play! Developer set to buy 95-acre tank farm site near Encore casino in Everett https://www.bostonglobe.com/2022/06...re-tank-farm-site-with-plans-build-new-there/
Because of what the article says. Excerpt: The Kraft Group has been rumored to be in the mix for this area, known as the Lower Broadway Economic Development District, as part of the search for a home for the New England Revolution soccer team. Or are you just reacting to me being "Lucy with the football" ?
From the Boston Globe today: The Massachusetts House passed legislation late Thursday that could clear the way for Robert Kraft to build a long-sought soccer stadium for the New England Revolution on a waterfront property steps from the Encore Boston Harbor casino in Everett. Without floor debate or public input, lawmakers added language to a wide-ranging, multibillion-dollar economic development bill Thursday evening that would exempt the 43-acre industrial property straddling the Everett and Boston line from a slew of environmental requirements so it could be developed as a “sports, recreation or events center.” Two people briefed on the legislation said the amendment is designed to aid Kraft’s pursuit of a soccer stadium after more than a decade of searching, but repeatedly failing to secure a new home for the Revolution in or around Boston.
Will Lucy really hold the football still this time as we poor Charlie Brown's get our hopes up once again!!??
I'm not necessarily enthusiastic about the project being exempted from "a slew of environmental requirements." I mean, what's up with that? When you're a billionaire, you get a pass on following laws that apply to everyone else?
Let's hope that the "slew of environmental requirements" being evaded simply have to do with a potential stadium's proximity to the Mystic River. While I'm eager for the Revolution to at long last call a right-sized, soccer-specific venue of their own home, I'm not at all enthused about the prospect of the team setting up shop at Love Canal Park. God forbid mascot Slyde the Fox gives way to the Toxic Shoccer.
