"Revere-lution" ehh lol?!? In regards to Rizzo, is he a fan of the Revs or just kicking the tires on replacement development for the old dog track?!? The reason why I posed this question was because down here, the Dynamo recieved an assist from an elected official that helped made our stadium a reality. When talks had essentially stalled and the Dynamo started looking at a suburban-site near the Galleria, it was County Judge Ed Emmett, who happened to be a huge fan of the Dynamo and was in a position of power over the county, that stepped in and got city & county together on the same page to make our new Downtown home a reality. If Rizzo is a Revs fan, it *could* help. Also, as for site work, the best bet would be for a new Revs SSS be built on Wonderland's surface lots (like say the lot directly across from Wonderland MBTA/Blue Line platform) while Wonderland itself is torn down to make way for new replacement surface lots for the SSS. Think Shea Stadium's transition to present-day Citi Field or County Stadium to Miller Park in Milwaukee. I would think that route would greatly speed up your SSS construction timeframe.
28 Nov 2011, 07:49 PM Woops, missed the 6 weeks. The fact is, as of this point, it is impossible for the stadium to break ground in 2012. One simply does not break ground, theres a whole process. If the stadium were to be announced tomorrow, the earliest ground would break would be March 2013, assuming no major NIMBY issues.
I think Wonderland is more shovel ready than some people may think. Also, Revere is motivated to get something done there. So the traffic would have to be fixed a bit. Could it be any worse than Patriot game days, or the Fenway area all baseball season?
Yeah, it's a LOT worse than both of those scenarios. However, if it's T accessible I guess that's a win (I am not in that demographic so my opinion's irrelevant).
No, I live too far west of the T and don't plan on taking the commuter rail + T to Revs games as it's just not worth the time/cost/inconvenience. But as I said, that really doesn't matter as a stadium on the T is a win for a lot more people than it's a loss, so I'll be happy for the city people (assuming they get off their asses and go to games in droves).
Living a town over from foxboro, it bemifits me to have the team playing in foxboro.....but I recognize the need for a stadium in boston
There are laws (environmental, public review etc) that limit what exactly shovel ready means. Again, 2012 real groundbreaking is not out of the question.
I know Dan, I've worked with Dan (consulting on his most recent campaign) and I've spoken to Dan about this issue. He's not a soccer guy, not really. He's a development guy, and if I had to guess, he didn't really like the Dog Track in the first place. Dan's primary mission has been since election to get new capital flowing into the city, and he's not going to rest until all the stones have been turned. Casinos, manufacturing, infrastructue, even soccer. The big benefit that Revere has with Rizzo is how popular he is, even among members of the council. I can see some Mayors saying "Let's build a soccer stadium" and the council and the public saying "Oh, I don't want Hooligans and Mexicans; not in my back yard!". Dan is popular enough that he can sell the city on it. That being said, I'm with shanary here, much ado about nothing.
Sure, why break the tradition of shitty stadium food. Other advantage of Wonderland: it's on the subway now, not at some nebulous future date. Disadvantage for everyone living on the Red line is that it's on the blue line. Advantage for most everyone living on the blue line is that it's walking distance anyway.
You're worshiping the wrong kind of gods if your religion involves self-flagellation, cutting, and Kelly's Roast beef.
Exactly for that reason. Any affront to Kelly's is an afront to the entire culture of Revere, and any afront to Beach City is an affront to me, personally.
There is a proliferation of good to amazing sandwich shops on the Northshore. Kelly's is NOT one of them.
Recent pic of the new stadium taking shape in Houston... looks just about ready to lay the turf from the look of it:
