Agreed. Kraft has sunk hundreds of millions into the Revs and the league to slow the growth of soccer. Come on, guys! It's so obvious.
Which is exactly my point on the indifferent/Apathy versus Effort to Squash the Game.. Honestly, does it really matter? Both are equally damning..! starving a dog until it's too weak and dies or kicking it down the stairs to make that end sooner... A passionate effort to go spend $250 million on a stadium for 20k or so thousand people, definitely isn't on the top of Kraft's agenda! And in actuality I've always said...He DOESN'T need a new stadium to CARE and make this TEAM a TOP MLS Squad, both on and off the field.
Cool picture. Those sarcastic images usually strengthen an argument. He hasn't sunk any money. He has seen a return on his investment over the years. You can try to parse the words all you want, and post "funny" pictures, but it doesn't mean that any of you theories are any more/less valid. Other than being condescending, you have brought basically nothing to this discussion.
Now, THAT is something I'd LOVE to see proven!!?? And is that HIS OWN MONEY...? or the reinvesting of Revenue that he generated by 16 of US buying tickets, merchandise and concessions? Considering 16 years of even averaging 10-15k over the entire time..plus money from parking/merchandise/concessions..I can't see that it cost Kraft much to run the Revs. And if HE invested even 1/10th of what Phil Anschutz did in propping up 8/10ths of the League back in the day..I'd be very surprised!! But, heck..Nothing about Krafty would surprise me.
Don't forget about the SUM money he gets from gate receipts for all the international friendlies and European club summer tours. How many other NFL owners have another product that fills their stadium in off months? This notion that he has "sunk" his own money into anything is a joke. Sure, he made an investment, and over the years, the investment has seen a return. It's funny that one the one hand someone will call him a savvy businessman, and on the other they will say he "sunk" his money into the team and league.
http://http://www.transburbia.org/2011/12/expanding-somerville-reclaiming-highway-territory-on-the-urban-fringe/ Above is a link to an architecture / urban design blog which talks about an mls stadium at brick bottom as part of the green line extension. There are some interesting images of stadiums and other buildings overlaid on an aerial of the site.
your link was a little wonky for me, but found it here http://www.transburbia.org/2011/12/...aiming-highway-territory-on-the-urban-fringe/ clearly i am totally missing the part(s) about the MLS stadium
Actually, this is a better link: http://www.transburbia.org/2011/11/...utilized-land-in-bostons-inner-suburban-ring/ But this is all conceptual, not necessarily reflective of any actual plan.
I think Kraft just wants to break even on the revs while the team developes and acquires new talent in a couple of years. kraft could buy rinoldinho, and that would make him lose 15 million a year with 35000 in attendance. You cry babies should support your team, an you should encourage others to attend games. The stadium is fine, the security is fine, and let Kraft not have to lose money every single season.
I try, almost every day, to get new people to come to games. But its like bringing a knife to a gunfight, even among soccer fans. If we had Ronaldinho (Hell, I'd settle for Far Ronaldo), I'd have a much easier time of it
Yeah, let's do the team's job for them- we should bring people. They shouldn't have to carry the burden of being professional enough to attract fans on their own! The horror! The last sentence is pure comedy gold and I thank you for it- haven't been to a game lately have you? PS who says he's losing money?
I went to all I could stomach this year, one (RSL). You'd remember it better if you hadn't busy drunkenly yelling at Garrett about obscure State House rules of order, chief. I'll say this, from how it's looking I'll be watching 2012 from my couch with Scott Eberhart and Eric Lessard, two other Maine Revs fans (I think we're the only fans here) pushed away...
News from sources close to the Kraft/Casino thing: The report is that Kraft is going to try to leverage 'backing off' of challenging DeLeo/Suffolk Downs for a Casino in exchange for some public money to build a Stadium at Brickbottom. Evidently The Speaker is looking for business support to extending the Green Line, so while it's a win-win, DeLeo wins twice.
If this is true, it could be another brilliant quid pro quo poker move by Krafy. Much like the Hartford double down bet. It would be awesome, but, I have trouble getting my arms around the idea of Kraft going to those lengths for his wretched stepchild.
But if the Commonwealth is going to build him a concert venue, I don't think he'll mind if we play some soccer on it sometimes.
