I was calling for this just two weeks ago--glad they listened to me! Brad Knighton's option not picked up in Vancouver, FYI. I've always thought he's a solid keeper and never understood why he keeps getting cut, especially this past year at the Caps in favor of that clown Ousted. Autogolazo, Nov 28, 2013
Well, he's better then Shuttleworth, but I sure as hell hope the plan for next year doesn't involve either one of them being our starting goalkeeper.
Knighton Shining Armor, glad to have him back, I liked him. I can safely say he's an upgrade over Shutteworth, but I can't say for certain he's the best guy for the position. Reis is some hard shoes to fill.
I would like to know what we gave up. Anything less than a second-rounder and I'm okay with it. Second-rounder and/or more and I'm less so.
For comparison's sake, Stefan Frei just went for a for a first-round pick. I rate Frei above Knighton, so a second-round pick does sound about right. I guess we'll see.
I wonder what the conditions are, but I'm okay with this. Especially since it's a 2015 pick, not a 2014 pick.
I'm sure it will be dictated by PT, it's just a matter of whether it's a 2nd/3rd rounder or a 1st/2nd rounder.
I'll take Knighton catching crosses and commanding his box any day. He's solid. Frei can be a spectacular shop-stopper, but also makes big gaffes--like the Peruvian keeper at FCD.
I like it. He's 28, has more experience than Shuttleworth and I think better decision making. I'd be ok with the two of them fighting it out for the starting position.
Knighton looked pretty solid last year from what little I saw of him. The good thing is he is going into the early part of the "prime" of a MLS keeper's career and already has a decent amount of MLS experience. He should be getting better each year, but still may be 2-3 years away from being truly solid, if he is ever going to get there at all. I like the pick up and I think we can all expect him to be our #1 next season, but I don't think he has enough edge over Bobby to have the spot locked up, so the competition will be tight, which is great for us!
I like the fact that the Revs wasted no time in bringing in an experienced keeper. I thought this kid had a good upside when I first saw him, more so than Shuttleworth. This move should like a fire under Shuttleworth's butt if he wants to play in this league. I can see this being perhaps the best battle in camp for a starting job.
Yes, I thought Knighton had lots of potential when we had him. He just needed seasoning. Seem's he's gotten that now. I was sorry when we had to let him go.
He sounds pretty stoked to be back, too: “My family and I couldn’t be more excited to be coming back to New England, where I began my career,” Knighton said in a statement. “I had three incredible years here and I couldn’t think of a better city, organization and team to return to. I can’t be happier this worked out.”
I like Knighton more than Frei. Frei is too shaky at times. Knighton is more steady. I'll take that any day.
But no Cabela's! He must mean East Hartford. Regardless, I'm happy to have him back. At least he's not an unknown quantity.
Good - so we have 2 MLS caliber back ups to battle it out in camp. Now we just need to get a starter.
You mean Vancouver didn't make him hold off till the day after the press conference?! I think the two of them will share the job. Dream on. This is it. At best we'll add a #3 from the middle/late rounds of the college draft. I think it'll play out just like this year. Each will get starts and if they're playing well, they'll keep the job. When they hit a tough patch or pick up and injury/suspension, Heaps will switch.
